Clark pokes at Bush in Democratic address

WASHINGTON Retired Army General Wesley Clark says this weekend's constitutional referendum in Iraq is "an important political event" but "not the end of the story."

In today's Democratic radio address, Clark said President Bush is "long overdue in providing a plan to achieve Iraqi military sufficiency." He also chided the administration for failing to build a political consensus around a new government, achieve regional political stability, and develop reconstruction policies in Iraq.

Clark agrees with the president that a premature U-S withdrawal would reward terrorists. But he also says Americans are angry about Bush's "incompetence" and "general unwillingness to acknowledge with some humility" that he's made "terrible and tragic mistakes" in Iraq.

1. Acknowledging with humility won't cut it anymore.
We're way past that.......too many lies to accept some tongue in cheek apology from the blatent liars in the WH. Impeachment might bring some reconciliation for the 1970 dead soldiers.....one crony per.

What Clark seems to say is we'll be there as long as dubya has said. I don't go along with that.

3. Um. We WILL be there as long as Dubya has said...
probably longer.

Short of a military coup (impeachment won't do it) the neocons are planning to stay in Iraq until at least 2009, and well beyond. We're building massive permanent military bases there. The neocons have no intention of packing up and leaving. If a Democrat should win the presidency, PNAC will still find a way to keep us there.

4. Looks like we need to elect one tough democrat to stand up to the PNAC's.
Clark has some good ideas, but he's military minded.

2. "Clark agrees...that a premature U-S withdrawal would reward terrorists"?!
How??

So does Wes think the terrorists are sitting with their hands folded in their laps, politely waiting for us to leave?? How can ANYTHING be more of a reward than the fucking quagmire the Bush** Crime Family created??

Dammit!!

NGU.

6. I read Clark's speech last night and thought it was really good.
It still doesn't explain how our staying in Iraq will make things better. That, I think, should be the litmus test. Troops out now unless someone has a plan that requires our troops to stay for a specific time to finish specific tasks. Just keeping our troops there without specific goals for them to accomplish is pointless. We need a plan and benchmarks such as a schedule for the decline in insurgency activities. If the benchmarks, say reduction to a specific number of bombing attacks by insurgents, are not met, we bring our troops home and let the Iranians and the Kurds fight over what is left of the country.

7. That's the problem.
Bush is not likely to do what's needed. He will have defeated our troops. He is the WMD.
