Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 06:07 PM by Zen Democrat
to attest to the qualification of Harriet Miers have the following backgrounds:

John Hill: Senior Partner of Harriet Mier's lawfirm, Locke Liddell & Sapp.

Thomas Phillips: Former partner of James Baker's lawfirm, Baker & Botts.

As if these guys are objective. ROFLMAO

"On Monday, as senators return from visits to their districts, Bush is hosting a White House event with former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justices John Hill and Thomas Phillips."

1. Let's all remember
that these are from the state supreme court that routinely, if not universally, finds no errors in death penalty decisions--so why would we find them credible?

3. One of the most right wing supreme courts in the country.
And let's not forget Miers' relationship with one of the farthest right judges, Nathan Hecht.

2. More Republican window dressing.
All show and no go. Just hoping that we don't look too hard so they can ram her through.

4. A Big DINO
One of the plentiful Dino's at the beck and call of the re pugs and big corporations. They give cover of respectability to the hideous things the crony capitalists do to the masses.

6. John Hill, lottery commission
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 06:42 PM by sandnsea
He was pulled back into "public service" to be on the Lottery Commission, AFTER he had been a Supreme Court Judge. He served with Harriet and one other person. He served for a couple of years and then resigned because of "appearances" when his and Harriet's two firms merged. I don't think their being on that Commission had anything to do with protecting Bush's TANG record, I think it was to funnel money to GTECH and other Texas big-wigs, like Rainwater and the Bass Brothers.

7. John Hill, also former Democratic Attorney General of Texas.
But he was one of the conservative dems who aligned with the Republicans when he lost the governor's race and he sensed the Republicans were gathering steam. I remember when he was leading the fight for appointing judges in Texas, rather than having them run for office. Once the Republicans took over the Texas judiciary, he folded up his little campaign for judicial "reform".
