1. "Suddenly Useless Vehicle" lol
Roscoe Bartlett has done at least three of these "special order speeches". You can find his material and a good number of his slides on his Cong website.

2. Bartlett sounds like a real smart guy
I really thought he was a dem until they flashed the R-MD on the bottom.

Maybe they can get some legislation together that does what the energy bill didn't.

4. This is making me angry
Where are the Democrats? There are 5 Republicans up there talking about Peak Oil and the need for energy independance. These are the issues that the Democrats need to talk about. Kerry mentioned it in his campaign, but was that only to cater to the environmentalists? Where are the Democrats?

Rep. Sherwood Boehlert from NYY, a Republican, is urging people to write their Reps in Congress to increase CAFE standards. He said this is the first step to energy independance. Now he is linking our dependence on foreign oil to funding terrorism. It is true, we buy oil from the Middle East and some of that money gets funneled to the terrorists.

5. Traditionally, Ohio politicians cowed to the automakers & the union
and did not advocate for higher efficiency standards. I should say they "blocked" fuel efficiency standards. Now that the Big Three is moribund and moving jobs out of Ohio anyway, maybe it is time for the Ohio reps to start advocating for efficiency.

7. Another good reason to end labor union dominance of the Dem party
They've forced Dems to back away from cleaning up the environment, increasing CAFE standards and alternative energy. Its been a recipe for failure.

8. King City, OR, Democrats
Some of us are paying attention. Friday evening 10/7, the King City Democrats had Jim Wrathall with Portland Peak Oil (www.portlandpeakoil.org) as a speaker. King City is a retirement community just south of Portland OR. I also attended Al Gore's presentation on Global Warming in Portland September 6th. There were so many people who didn't get in that presentation, even after opening up a third section, that Mr. Gore very graciously agreed to do a second presentation.
