Cheney’s office is focus in leak case
Sources cite role of feud with CIA
in leak probe

Updated: 12:00 a.m. ET Oct. 18, 2005
By Jim VandeHei and Walter Pincus - As the investigation into the leak of a CIA agent's name hurtles to an apparent conclusion, special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald has zeroed in on the role of Vice President Cheney's office, according to lawyers familiar with the case and government officials. The prosecutor has assembled evidence that shows Cheney's long-running feud with the CIA contributed to the unmasking of operative Valerie Plame

4. If bush knew, he's complicit, and should be turfed.
If he didn't know, he's incompetent and not in control.

And should be turfed.

30. Just for the record, and I could be off base
I posted this in another thread:

I think Bolton is the best guess
But I want to throw in another name. There are so many rats to choose from! I say George Tenet. Isn't he about to do a 'tell-all'? Isn't he, shall we say, at odds with the WH?

Possible?

18. You know what's sad?
I knew about Cheney and the WHIG back before the war, there were reports on this group on Democracy Now, apparently one of the air force officers on the group resigned and was essentially whistleblowing on the run up to the Iraq war.

I'll look around for links to back this up, my memory for whether this was before the war in iraq or not is fuzzy. I am pretty sure it was before.

27. Amy Goodman and her show 'Democracy Now' are the best
there is on the planet! PERIOD. Everyone on DU should stream her show daily...she is mandatory for all progressives. She is a year ahead of everyone!

She should be cloned!!!! And we should be donating to her as well!

She quietly goes about her business of true and honest and dangerous REPORTING...with so few accolades.

WATCH AMY DAILY! THERE IS NO ONE BETTER....NO ONE!

29. Indeed!
She was great on Chris Matthews Hardball today, and he agreed with her on many points. I tivo'd it and had to rewatch just to be sure I wasnt in Bizarro World!

I am so glad that Amy has taken her show to TV, so much more exposure there even if its not on every cable system by any stretch. DirectTV + Dish both carry LinkTV which carries her show.

She has an op-ed page linked threw a Libertarian site: She not Dem nor Repuke but is one hell of a Pentagon whistle blower who watched the neo-cons ruin our country. Here is great piece from her spot on the Daily Kos: <http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/16/134133/271>

34. Thanks!
Her name was on the tip of my tongue, despite my inabilty to spell Slavic names :)

Today we have not even a shadow of the Nixon or Clinton era political and media power competition. Instead, we see only unbalanced power, unbalanced perspective, unbalanced minds. A warped political-media borg warning us that resistance is futile.

Great stuff, bookmarked, she's a hero for sure.

14. Cheney's family members are combatants:
"In the Bush White House, Cheney typically has operated secretly, relying on advice from a tight circle of longtime advisers, including Libby, David Addington, his counsel, and his wife and two children"

That old lesbian Lynn Cheney tried to make a big deal when Kerry referenced daughter Mary, as though they weren't combatants, but clearly they are and we should have gone after the assholes.

15. Of course Richard B. Cheney is in this muck
up to his pacemaker. He's the mastermind. Dick and everybody else in the Bundestag -- I mean the West Wing -- know waaaay more about what's going on than they've ever told Dubya.

So, when Fitz comes out in front of the mikes I'm not gonna get greedy. (But I do hope he picks 'em off like mallards over Cheney's duck blind.)

16. don't lose sight of Newt either ...
Newt was sent on numerous occasions to "have friendly chats" with the CIA about their obviously erroneous findings about there being no WMD in Iraq ...

it seems the WH and the OSP considered such reports as "not quite what they were looking for" and Newt stopped by multiple times to ask them to sort of double check their facts "just to make sure" .... Gingrich intimidated CIA analysts as often as cheney did ...

and now the Newster wants to run for President while all the other bad little boys and girls are off to jail ...

35. "implausible" that Cheney himself was involved leaking Plame's name
"But, a former Cheney aide, who requested anonymity, said it is "implausible" that Cheney himself was involved in the leaking of Plame's name because he rarely, if ever, involved himself in press strategy.
