Hastert to Dems: "...Support Fiscal Restraint"
Speaker Hastert to Democratic Leadership: 'Kick the Tax-and-Spend Addiction and Support Fiscal Restraint'

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=55192

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) today released the following statement, urging Democrats to join House Republicans who are working hard to pass spending restraint initiatives that will help pay for the recent hurricane disasters:

"Earlier this year, House Republicans passed a fiscally responsible budget without any Democratic votes. This was a lean budget that cut $100 billion from the deficit. We were then struck with the worst natural disaster in our nation's history. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita brought widespread damage to the Gulf Coast region, and Congress has been working to help get our fellow citizens back on their feet.

"The Democrats on the other hand have done nothing since the onset of this disaster but urge us to abandon fiscal responsibility and attempt to bust the budget with new spending. I challenge the Democrats to kick their tax-and-spend addiction and work to submit real plans to help America make a down payment on these hurricane disasters.

1. Fiscal responsibility?
He has to be kidding.

Here, folks, is how they get their "message" across so well. THEY LIE. Unless we're willing to lie like them, our "message" will never resonate with the sheeple like their lies do.

25. This is phase-2 of the "drown the govt" plan.
Phase 1 was to run up the deficit and cut taxes. Now that phase has done it's job. The govt is broke. Phase 2 is to cut social spending programs, in the name of "fiscal responsibility"

33. They are, Here, now who's going to help
The Democratic Leadership and The DNC are striking back at the “immoral and financially irresponsible” budget proposed by Republicans. "It is despicable that the Republican Leadership in Congress has decided to pile the costs of their failed fiscal leadership on the backs of our most vulnerable Americans,” said Democratic National Committee Press Secretary Josh Earnest. “Taking food and health care away from children, the elderly and the disabled is not a proposal but a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who have already been pushed deeper into poverty by the Republicans’ failed policies."

From Harry Reid, “For the next five weeks, Republicans have decided we should focus on cutting health care funding for the sick and elderly….On cutting education funding for our students….And on cutting housing and food assistance funding for those who need it most.”

Of course, Republicans will be arguing that all of this is justified in the name of fiscal discipline. But these are the same people that have brought us the largest deficits and debt increases in this nation’s history. The same people who have voted for trillions in additional tax cuts and hundreds of billions for Iraq – without batting an eye about the fact that none of this spending was offset. And the same people who would like to move forward on another round of expensive tax breaks.”

Nancy Pelosi responded to Dennis Hastert's ridiculous attempt to blame Democrats for Republican budgets saying,

"Republicans have squandered the largest budget surplus in American history and continue to put forth fiscally irresponsible budgets. Their latest proposal would actually increase the deficit by $20 billion dollars, increase tax cuts for their cronies, and cut critical programs used by Hurricane Katrina and Rita survivors.

"Republicans need to get serious about the budget; it is a statement of values as a nation. Republicans refused to join Democrats in supporting pay-as-you-go budgeting to share the sacrifices that must be made. It is unacceptable for Republicans to cut taxes for their cronies, paid for on the backs of the middle-class, working Americans.

"Together, America can do better. Democrats will continue to stand with Katrina and Rita survivors, veterans, students, and working families struggling to pay for gas and home heating oil, medical care, and other basic needs."

13. That's right, fiscal restraint: keep spending pegged to revenues.
So INCREASE TAXES, dummies! Keep the Estate Tax, don't make its repeal permanent. Increase the rates for the top categories in the Income Tax.

I mean, really.

Hundreds of billions of dollars on a war that was supposed to be "self-financing?"

Tax cuts that transformed a $200 billion surplus into a $400 billion deficit?

21. There are two sides to every budget
revenue and expenditures. Your leadership has already
screwed up the revenue side and insist on extending that
screw-up. Physician heal thyself. Then start talking to
the minority about any responsibilities they may have.
Be sure to keep the vote machine open at least three
hours beyond the vote time limit and also do it in the dark
of night with your little criminals running around twisting
arms and offering bribes for vote changes. One can only hope
that you and your ilk will be packing your bags and calling
the movers next November. Can't happen too soon.

Pelosi: Immoral and Irresponsible Republican Budget Does Nothing to Address Concerns of Hard-Working Americans

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=55204

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today responding to Speaker Hastert's misleading statement on the budget:

"Speaker Hastert and Congressional Republicans are desperately trying to distract the American people from their culture of corruption and cronyism. The real problem with the Republicans' immoral and financially irresponsible budget is that it does nothing to address the concerns of hard-working Americans; instead it gives tax breaks to Republican cronies.
