Attn: Nurses, What do you think of a Democratic Nurses Caucus?
I'm seriously considering starting a Democratic Nurse Caucus. If we were to unite as "ONE VOICE" we could be amazingly effective with securing the attention of serious health care needs. Not only health care needs but issues that interface with the needs of humanity as a whole.

ANA, American Nurses Association ,has to wear a nurses cap so to speak, meaning taking on soft-ball issues and dancing with republicans since they have power. We could be strong and progressive and lead the Democratic message on many issues. We don't have claws, we have needles!

We can also have a PAC and back Democrats with spines only.

Nurses and student nurses ......Who is with me? Show your enthusiasm.

1. I can help start an Ohio Chapter
I am logged in on my husband's account right now. I ran for State Senate in Ohio and I am a RN in Ohio. I am also a very progressive liberal democrat. I have been trying to think of a way that nurses could weigh in collectively on the various issues of the day.

2. I'm in Ohio too.
Did you attend the ONA Convention in Toledo a week ago? I did. Ya know, quite a few more nurses are lining up to run for Statehouse offices. Two are very active in ONA.

Oh my, do we know each other?

I really am motivated for this Democratic Nurse Caucus. My heart and soul has been committed. It feels right. I just need a team.

4. It is a good idea
No I did not attend anything in Toledo last week. I am focusing my energies on local issues right now, like getting our local school levy passed. But, I would be willing to help if you take the lead on this Democratic Nurses organization.

5. Thanks. Like I said. I'm committed as it feels right.
Did you know; One in 40 registered voters are nurses. That does not count their family members who are influenced somewhat by their politics. Yes, a few are repugs but that is a small fraction of the mass.

I just feel that nurses need to get out and kick things up a notch or two. I felt the potential power during the Presidential Campaign while working with the Ohio Health Care Committee. It lacked organization...which in my area, I added my energy as a team leader when needed and saw the empowerment health care professionals could evoke.... I realized if there was a stronger, organized collective....WHOOOOO we could shake some dust.

7. I think it's a great idea-
I would be willing to join (Texas)...the tough part here is that, contrary to other parts of the country, the majority of nurses are religious right repubs. If state participation is critical,it would be difficult to mobilize nurses in Texas. As a right to work state, our hospitals still have a very narrow view of things like-oh-the First Amendment.I do have three nurse friends who are hard-core Democrats that would join.Get it started and let's see where it goes.
