Maybe the idea of "outing" Wilson's wife was not really punishment for what Wilson wrote, or that he dared conflict with WHIG...

rather that is the "cover story" in a concerted attempt to shut down Brewster-Jennings, who may have been on the trail of planting WMD evidence in post-invasion Iraq....

people are focused on the outing of a CIA operative...some take it a step further and say this is about the false info in the lead up to war....

I think it may even go a step further they worked to shut Brewster-Jennings which stood in their way to plant evidence, not just in Iraq, but in any country where they might need a convienient reason to invade.
