Kucinich introduces Resolution of Inquiry to demand documents from WHIG
Kucinich Uses House Procedure To Demand Documents From White House Iraq Group

Kucinich Uses Resolution Of Inquiry To Demand Documents From White House Group That Developed Strategy To “Sell” War To The Public And Press

Washington, Oct 20 - Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) today introduced a Resolution of Inquiry to demand the White House turn over all white papers, minutes, notes, emails or other communications kept by the White House Iraq Group (WHIG).

“This group, comprised of the President and Vice President’s top aides, was critical in selling the Administration’s case for war,” stated Kucinich. “We now know that the Administration hyped intelligence and misled the American public and Congress in their effort to ‘sell’ the war. After over 1,900 American troops have been killed in Iraq, it is long past time for this Congress to ask serious questions about WHIG and its role in the lead up to the war.”

A Resolution of Inquiry is a rare House procedure used to obtain documents from the Executive Branch. Under House rules, Kucinich’s resolution is referred to committee, and action must be taken in committee within 14 legislative days.

“For two-and-a-half years Congress has sat on the sidelines neglecting its oversight responsibility when it has come to Iraq,” continued Kucinich. “We owe it to the American people to hold this Administration accountable and to find out the truth.”

5. I like Kucinich but this is not the time for this.

It won't happen because of executive privilege but...

If congress gets involved it will become a mechanism to call witnesses who will get immunity in exchange for testimony. Justice won't be served if that happens.

I think we can all wait another week to see if there will be any indictments. If there are, these hearings aren't needed. If there are no indictments then dems might try to push for hearings.

26. But even those getting immunity would be frying "bigger fish" ?

I think the attack them from all sides approach is good. This is a concentrated effort from the DEMs everywhere.

George Miller in CA is pulling out a dusty law and challenging the dismantling of the law that is keeping locals in LA from being paid the prevailing wage for rebuilding after Katrina.

As reported on Air America Mike Malloy's show tonight... Cynthia McKinney asking Chertof about FEMA's blocking of aid in case after case... then bringing up nursing home owners that have been charged in the death of 30+ people in their care... "Why shouldn't YOU be arrested for negligent homicide?" I am not sure, but I think it was some formal hearing, it goes on the permanent record if it was.

6. All right, Dennis!!
The Repubs will do what they can to prevent the inquiry, but it was an excellent move.

And yes, the Congress has neglected its oversight reponsibility.

Thank you.

27. Would not surprise me. JC has been blazing the DEM trail for a minute.
Would love to see John Conyers picked up as a VP on any good DEM ticket. I'd just like to see him shackle up those Senators and make them sit down and vote on the issues.

35. Conyers gathered signatures
after the downing street memo came to the public's attention, pages and pages of signatures were delivered to the White House. He organized the downing street memo hearing with Cindy Sheehan, Rep Hinchey, Ray McGovern etc. but then nothing happened after that. It was Barbara Lee that finally introduced a Resolution of Inquiry but it was right before the August break. Everyone forgot about it, when congress came back in session it was voted down in committee I think.

Dennis needs us get behind him in support on this, and the timing couldn't be better. If we can get these documents released, the whole cabal should come down. It's about time too, I am damn sick of the evil bastards running our once great nation.
