IMAGINE two bent detectives convincing Scotland Yard they had to go after a ruthless drugs baron because he was making deadly gear that could wipe out a generation.

While Saddam is paraded in front of a court hand-picked by Washington, to convince the world he was an evil monster whose capture justified the colonisation of a sovereign nation, George Bush and Tony Blair are feted as liberators.

Saddam is being indicted on one crime. The murder of 143 villagers of Dujail in 1982. The reason they won't read out the rest of his charge sheet is that defence lawyers could prove beyond doubt that the West was knee-deep in his bloody tyranny.

How we sold him tracking satellites, helicopter gun-ships, germ-seed for anthrax, nuclear pumps and the ingredients to make chemical weapons - knowing what they were being used for.
