What is that crappy Sherrod Brown ad doing here?
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 04:58 AM by CanOfWhoopAss
DU says 71% for Hackett so far!

Suddenly Brown found a set of nuts? Are they even his? I think not. Sherrod Brown is going down! Steve Gilliard gets it right as C&L has picked up on it.

<<...>>

"Brown is an ordinary candidate who's yellow streak has already shown itself. I mean, he could have run before Hackett said a word. He only jumped in when he realized the odds were pro-Dem. Of course people want a seasoned pol to take what looks like a ripe seat. But the fact is that Hackett, despite his lack of experience, has a much better message to take into a cripped state and national GOP. And he was willing to run when the odds were high, when Brown punked out.

3. same old thing
The democrats need to offer change -not the same insider dealing and beltway corruption that has sunk the country to its current low.

I don't know enough about the two candidates - but on the surface - Brown seems "one of the boys" - Hackett looks like "new blood".

Guess what US politics is in dire need of just now?

an ad themselves instead of bitching about the fact that Brown has one. I'm sure Skinner will take their money just as happily, once they quit whining.

5. Bullshit.
Brown is a true progressive with a proven track record. Read the comments from the Ohio DUers, they know.

Spew your crap elsewhere.

some of us have knee jerk reactions to everything these days. Brown seems to be a fine candidate.

6. This thread is offensive.
Would a "What is that crappy Howard Dean ad doing here?" thread have been acceptable during the 2004 primaries?

Do your own research people.

(BTW, I only used Dean as an example--meaningless otherwise)

16. I'm sure he is but Ohio is not a progressive state.
He is a handicap and he can't win a general state-wide election. Let's get a Dem who has a chance to win the seat.

And that Sherrod Brown ad is on every one of my favorite progressive websites. I realize it's a paid advertisement, and I guess Sherrod Brown is trying to show how deep his pockets are, but the ad comes off like an endorsement to me... it just looks and reads that way.

It also appears, to me, that Brown is trying to show wavering Dems that he owns the blogs now, considering the overwhelming support blogs through to Hackett during the OH-2 special election.

It's annoying, especially since I'm a Hackett girl. :-)

8. It's an ad. Brown's campaign paid for it.
If Hackett's camapign wants an ad, they will have to pay for one too.

9. Brown has done and said some good things, but....
His entry into this race does have the appearance of claim-jumping. I also wish he weren't so dismissive of Hackett's value and level of support. Hackett can pull in voters that Brown could never dream of getting, and while Brown may espouse a more liberal vision, what good will it do if he doesn't win?

10. "Crappy" is your opinion
It appears from what I've read from Ohio residents that Brown is not a crappy Congressman.

And as has been stated above, his campaign bought an ad. I'd expect Hackett's campaign to do the same if they intend to compete.

15. If he is not a crappy congressman that is great.
let him continue serving in the house. I want a progressive as much as the next guy but he appears to be an opportunist in this race. Let's not handicap ourselves and get a Dem in the seat. Hackett had more to do with creating an atmosphere where a Dem could win than Brown did. Brown should back off. If not he should go ahead and lose and then give Hackett his full support.

11. I'm a lot more concerned with snake-oil ads on Air America.
Brown's a Dem, placing an ad on and providing revenue for DU. Good for him.

(Mind you, I think Hackett's a swell fellow and a fighter and wish him the best in his primary run. Perhaps he should consider taking out a rival DU ad.)

The snake-oil merchants are bilking consumers for products that don't work (i.e. skin creams, boner pills, anti-alcoholism treatment) on a "progressive" programming network. Fuck them.

And yes, this is pertinent. You want to talk inappropriate advertising, I've given you an example. Brown's doesn't belong in that category.

14. Doesn't matter if he is a better fit.
He can't win. He is too progressive for Ohio. If he wins the primary he is the weaker candidate and just another handicap for Dems. Time to be realistic.

17. The GDP poll is meaningless
A poll in GDP is meaningless. The best a voter outside Ohio can do would be to donate time and/or money.

A more meaningful poll would be in the Ohio forum.

Is your problem that he isn't progressive enough or that he is too progressive to win? Incidently Brown won statewide twice.

21. Jesus. I don't have a dog in this fight, but if the worst that can be said
about Brown is that he got into the race too late, then he must be a pretty good guy. Why does Hackett own the seat? Because he announced first? What the hell is wrong with a primary?
