When he was nominated, I wasn't paying attention, I was young and not interested in politics. All I remember was he was found renting adult videos. But with Miers in the news he's back as an example of what the conservatives want in a nominee. I've seen him interviewed and read some stuff he's written lately. Thank god he was bumped. An example of why a citizen should pay attention to what goes on in government. A bitter, opinionated, unrealistic, disconnected ideologue with a big pole up is ass. I sincerely hope his kind never gets on the bench. He makes Bush seem like Ralph Nader.

1. He was pretty scary then. |

I usually reserve my shouting at TV for sports, but I was doing during the confirmation hearings.

the only other school that would harbor him is Pepperdine U. (Ken Starr's place). Well, maybe Oral Roberts U. and Bob Jones U.

George Mason University is a very richly-endowed place with a Nobel winner on its staff, and a right-wing bent that's so strong and so subtle, at first glance, when you're on the campus, you're pretty sure you're in a normal place.
But, make no mistake, it's quite righty, and if there's a left-wing group anywhere on that pristine campus, I've yet to see it.
I was offered a teaching job there. When I went to talk to them about it, I realized even as we were making the introductions that I'd have lasted about, oh, fifteen minutes there.
It's got $$$, though, and it gets some big names in as visiting faculty. The place scares me.

3. Why isn't his name brought up more often? |
|
It's like our pink-tutu brigade is ashamed that the word "Bork" is used as a verb by wingnuts. They shouldn't be. We were right to keep this fascist loon out of the SCOTUS, and we should be using Bork as an example of why people like Miers need to be exposed for what they are (whatever that may turn out to be, and I'm hoping that the Judiciary Committee Democrats do their damn jobs.)
Great point, BTW, and I'm glad you raised this issue--thanks.

7. It wasn't videos that brought down Bork |
|
It was his views, particularly his clearly stated belief that there is no right to privacy. He was too extreme even for a lot of Republicans.
