3. I or out ain't nobody's bidness but the person in question.

With exceptions.

Someone who works to make life worse for gay/lesbian/whatever but is closeted *should* be exposed. Not to help "empower" anyone. rather, to expose hypocrisy.
For instance: anyone who worked for or signed the Defense of Marriage Act.

As for Shepherd Smith being gay?
1. No duh.
2. Only thing he should be ashamed of is working for faux.

(takes soapbox and goes home)

21. Seems fair to out him if he's using his position to hurt his fellow gays.
I'm queer, and I say that all who use their hate to hurt their fellows have earned outing.

The hypocrisy must be revealed.

5. I'm not sure that anyone should be outed. I understand both sides of
the case. Myself - I would not care if I was called gay - I am not - but I'm just not that much of a snob. Plus I don't have a career in the news.

He is a hypocrite.

7. People who make their living degenerating gays should be outed.
That includes Republican politicians, regardless of whether or not they pubically mock gays. The party itself does and that is enough for me.

We'll take Anderson Cooper. He is a cutie. You all can have Shepard Smith--we queers don't want him :)

8. Why are there so many closet gays in the GOP media camp?
Look at all the big names in the GOP's hate media: Drudge, Hannity, Gannon, Limbaugh (?), Coulter (?)... Has anyone ever looked into this phenomenon?

10. Something about this story doesn't seem right
The RawStory links to an editorial in a gay newspaper, written by the paper's editor who claims that Shepard Smith hit on him at a gay bar. I have trouble believing this really occured - that a highly paid news anchor for a conservative news network would risk his entire public reputation by appearing at a gay bar and asking out the editor of a gay newspaper.

Reminds me of the editor of "Out" (or "Advocate", I don't know the difference) who told the mass media that he was having an affair with a famous MLB ballplayer. It was obvious B.S. Kind of like the gay porno actor who claimed he was Tom Cruise's boyfriend, but later had to admit the whole thing was a lie.

I don't. I can see exactly how this could happen.

12. Clearing up confusion.
It was the editor for "OUT" magazine who made the claim about the BB player. As for the differences, "OUT" is more a 'lifestyle' magazine (think "Vanity Fair') and "The Advocate" is more a political/news magazine (think "Newsweek").

I'd weigh in on the side of those here who think this is fair game. Anyone who plays a part in furthering the persecution of gays, and of denying them equal rights, whether they're in Congress, the Senate, the state house, the White House, or the media/propaganda machinery that enables that persecution (like the Pox "news" channel), had better not be a target themselves. Otherwise, it's just sheer hypocrisy, and deserves to be exposed.

Further, since the enemy cares nothing about using anything up to and including proctoscopes to probe into the personal lives and foibles of liberals, Democrats, and all things Clinton, the enemy must be forced to face that it risks the EXACT same treatment. "FAIR GAME" as kkkarl rove would say. Taste of their own medicine. Perhaps if they feel the cold, cutting edge of the knife blade against their own throats, they won't be so quick to wave it around in front of ours. That blade cuts both ways, and they need to get a sense of that, too.

Sorry to be so hard-bitten about this, but seems to me these folks have gotten away with smearing everyone and anyone they think gets in their path or tries to tell the truth about their agenda, with no consequences, for FAR TOO LONG. Nothing's ever done back, against them, and they always come out unscathed. Maybe if they get roughed up a little by their own tactics, it will teach them a lesson. A bully only bullies til he/she is confronted, and hit back - HARD. Nobody's been able to, or dared to, hit back hard on these types. Which I think has only emboldened them, because they've had such a free ride with no questionings, and no one to stop them. Maybe stuff like this will do so.

17. I must politely disagree
I saw him covering New Orleans post-Katrina. I've never seen such a ratcheting-up of hysteria. "ALL THESE PEOPLE'S HOMES WILL HAVE TO BE BULLDOZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And NO, he wasn't in the Ninth Ward. And YES, the very people, who'd just been torn apart by the storm, were right there nearby to hear his hysteria as background noise as they took their first post-storm look at their homes and at what was left of their former lives.

I know people from New Orleans and their homes are still standing and they want to RENOVATE them and LIVE IN THEM again. It IS possible for SOME of the people from there to do this. Not all the city was as damaged as the Ninth Ward. (And even in the Ninth Ward the homeowners should at least be given a chance to build on the sites of their former homes.)

I don't like the way Shepard was spreading doom and gloom among people who really, really, didn't need it at that moment.

I don't care if he's gay or straight, he's still from "Fox News Central Casting".

Good! And if it's true Shep's gay, I think he should be enlisted to do a "Queer Eye"-style makeover for Sean.

19. Maybe some day being gay won't be a source of shame
so that no one has to be in the closet and no one can be outed.

The very idea that to someone, somewhere, a man or woman's sexual life and emotional connections are something shameful is so stupid and crude and pre-historic.

But, as long as there are people out there using another group for hate mongering and bigotry being outed exists.

23. I was introduced to Smith at a small, neighborhood gay bar in DC...
The name escapes me. It was above the Italian Kitchen restaurant, just down the street from Annie's Steakhouse in Dupont Circle. It was just prior to his FOX days. I thought he was an asshole then, and I still think he's an asshole.
