Will the Right Wing Noise Machine falter if Rove is indicted?
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 05:45 PM by Ignacio Upton
Although the Right Wing Noise Machine is perhaps one of the best examples of de facto propaganda in recent history, I don't think that they are invincible. Rush and Hannity can only do so much for Bush and his allies. I can't see the RWNM holding up if Rove is indicted, and if Cheney then they will collapse. The aftermath of Katrina showed me that they are vulnerable IF WE ATTACK THEM AGGRESSIVELY. In the case of Katrina, Bush was dealt a blow to public's respect of him, but a majority of Americans in poll believe the bullshit that Blanco and Nagin should take more blame, and the fact that discussion of ways to help the poor is fading from the list of important things to do in Congress. However, they were unable to offer cohearant talking points for the first two weeks, until they ditch their faux bipartisanship line that worked after 9/11 and overtly moved in to attack Democratic officials

1. I think the Noise Machine will be noisier than ever,
sort of like a wounded water buffallo, but it will be far less effective.

11. It will be loud enough to wake up the ones that are sleeping like
the Iran/Conta fiasco woke many. Or when the heat was on Nixon folks started to pay attention.

You can count on it!!

2. Already frayed at the edges.
There's every reason to believe that this is already happening. Sure, Limpballs, Insanity, and O'Loofa will continue to spew their usual garbage. And the RNC will also continue with their spin.

But it's one of those Lincoln moments. "You cannot fool all the people all the time." People ain't buyin' it any longer. There's a political swing in progress. It will not happen over night, but it's now inevitable.

If we keep pulling at the loose threads, the whole thing will unravel like a cheap cardigan sweater.

5. should be interesting. . . .won't GOP/RNC want to "distance" itself too?
Seems like they may decide to distance themselves so as not to hurt themselves too much in '06. There may be another split coming in the noise machine (ala Miers nomination). Should be interesting

7. strangley the first I head that rationale was from Tom Oliphant on
Hardball. He was being all liberal-ly (which he is), but he basically said that the case is about making politics criminal. Since he has been sick, my guess is that he hasn't kept up with the case like we have.

But next thing you know the rwpundits were saying it.

15. See, I love that phrase
Any time the word criminal can be linked with Repugs is a good thing, in my mind. As ignorant as Joe Q. Public may be regarding political issues, I don't see any way they will buy that DeLay, Frist, Libby, and Rove are innocent and merely the victims of those nasty partisan Dems. Gee, maybe those who commit crimes are actually criminals. Plus, for crissakes, the Repugs hold all the power! Explain again how they are victims... ?! :wtf:

I think "criminalization of politics" was a stupid move in terms of framing.

4. Nagin and Blanco to blame...I disagree
It was Thursday before the storm the Chimp was well aware of what was
about to occur. He failed miserably,no effort was made to position the
needed supplies and manpower until Thursday the following week almost
96 hours after the damage was done.
On Monday at 10pm someone at DU posted,"NO is 80% under water"the levee's were blown or collapsed,we still dont have the correct picture of why they failed.IMHO I believe the Bush Crime Family delib
erately allowed people of NO to suffer and die. When the outcry was heard by all America 4 days later action was taken.

9. I'm talking about public opinion
Most of what the Right talks about is flse, as long as the public believes it it does not matter much.

10. I think so. Look at the stumbling on the conf call, the Mier roll-out, etc
Already there's signs the lock step "stay on message" routine that is Rove's forte is becoming disjointed. While that may just be a glitch due to the pace of events across the Republican landscape, I can't see how it can ever be as rabidly rigid without Rove in the mix.

13. The RW Noise Machine will still exist, though it will be...
highly disorganized and unable to run effectivly. It gives us an opening to influence the media.

14. The noise will be as bad as ever but there will be less dirty tricks.
Rove was willing to things that even most Repubs would not or could not do in the field of dirty tricks.
