A crucial, yet often overlooked issue (I think should be part of 06/08)...
is the environment. I saw an article on Yahoo today (http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20051021/wl_csm/odeforest_1) reporting that the Amazon rain forest is shrinking twice as fast as we previously thought it would. Additionally, all around the world, greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide are being released into the air that we breathe. This of course leads to global warming, which is a huge problem (I think this year's hurricane season is at least circumstantial evidence of that). Anyway, my point is that while other issues like Iraq and the economy (which are also crucial; I'm not trying to downplay their importance) remain at the forefront of today's political debate, it is important not to forget our environment, because its condition is deteriorating fast. Also, this is one issue where liberals have a clear advantage in the polls over conservatives, so I believe if we make this a central issue in the 2006 and 2008 elections, it would play to our advantage. Let's force the Republicans to defend their actions on the environment during the campaign.

1. When I read the Amazon Rain Forest had a drought this
year, it definitely got my attention. I just hope it's not too late to try to reverse global warming.

2. the environment is THE issue . . .
I don't care how important other issues are, the environment trumps them all . . . because if we keep destroying it at the current rate, nothing else will matter one iota . . . and soon . . .
