Changing Of The Guard: Miers Panel To Hear 'Explosive Testimony'?

CHANGING OF THE GUARD

Miers panel to hear
'explosive testimony'?

Gag order lifted for ex-lottery boss claiming Miers kept 'lid' on Bush Guard controversy

Harriet Miers and President Bush
Released from a gag order, Larry Littwin – the controversial former director of the Texas Lottery under Harriet Miers – is free to appear at the upcoming Supreme Court confirmation hearings to give "potentially explosive" testimony damaging both to President Bush and his nominee, according to WND columnist Jerome Corsi.

As WorldNetDaily has reported, Littwin allegedly was fired by Miers because he wanted to investigate improper political influence-buying by lobbyists for GTECH, the firm contracted to run the lottery.

Corsi believes that Littwin, according to an examination of hundreds of contemporary Texas newspaper accounts, will be able to establish under oath that the GTECH contract was preserved on a no-bid basis by then-chairwoman of the Lottery Commission Miers in order to "keep the lid on" the National Guard controversy involving then-Gov. Bush.

The lobbyists included Ben Barnes, the former Texas lieutenant governor who claims he pulled strings to get Bush into the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.

http://www.seeingtheforest.com/archives/2005/10/bush_national_g.htm

It appears that the Miers hearings may include some embarrassing details not only about the truth of Bush's dereliction of duty in the Texas Guard, but also about exactly how Miers helped cover it up.

There is a CORSI who is very prominent at FREEREPUBLIC.COM. This Jerome Corsi, if not the identical person, is (my guess) a relative. And yes, they were involved with the Swift Boat Liars defamation brigade.

3. call bush stupid
If he was as politically savvy as some of his boot-lickers suggest, Meirs never would have been selected anyway.

(As if we didn't know!)

Okay, freepholes, it was fun helping your prethident stick it to Rather, but whatcha gonna do when your prethident sticks it to YOU?

(He's been doing it to 'em for the last 5 years, but they didn't know about it because they have no feeling down there--if you know what I mean...)

20. They are the "Stupid Twins"

and they feed off of each other.

She probably sits and talks to him and they share big words like,"Cool and Neat."

In his mind she is brilliant because she talks and acts like he does.

What a sad state of affairs.

Now we have two sets of TWINS in the WH.

Cool! Neat! Gee!

24. I think you hit it on the head
Allegedly, Cheney's crew did not even know about his pick until after the fact. He may end up wishing he DID pick a cleaning lady, one of the gals with a mop and broom might have been a better candidate.

Either he is incredibly stupid or incredibly arrogant.
Maybe both. Or he is on self destruct?

9. Josh Marshall at TPM has confirmed this:

<snip>
The sourcing on the original story seem a little opaque to me. So I spoke to sources up on the Hill who confirmed that this is in fact true, that GTECH has agreed to allow Littwin to testify.

More on this soon.

Late Update: The original story at WND was written by Jerome Corsi, co-author of last year's notorious Swift Boat book, Unfit for Command. Like I said, I wanted to verify myself.
</snip>

That might also explain this:

Miers confirmation contract drops in heavy morning trading
At approximately 8:30 EST this morning traders monitoring the Harriet Miers confirmation process began selling aggressively contracts betting against her confirmation - probability drops from 62 to 20 in heavy trading.

"The Miers confirmation contract was trading at 92, meaning a 92% probability of confirmation last week. Early this week the contract slid to 64 then this morning with no warning dropped to 20 in heavy trading", says Mike Knesevitch Communication Director at Intrade.
</snip>

:rofl:

on edit: Kicking and recommending - this is going to be the #2 big story next week (#1 being Fitzmas. :))

This November, Bush will have a criminal trial in the Plame case, and a Senate investigation of his National Guard service at the same time. It is feeling a little like Christmas for liberals. :)

as to why bush would select miers, his "brain" is distracted and with his supreme arrogance the puppet decided to be all presidential and made the appointment decision solo.

let's hope Pride truly does come before the Fall....

8. interesting-part of his settlement was to destroy his records. So, this

testimony will be a 'remembering'--could be tricky.

GTECH agreed to release Littwin from his gag order under pressure from Senate Judiciary Committee attorneys, Corsi said.

Littwin, who was hired by Miers in June 1997 and fired just five months later, wanted to reopen the GTECH contract for competitive bid, according to Corsi........

When Littwin sued GTECH over losing his job, Barnes gave a five-hour deposition. But GTECH settled with Littwin for $300,000, under the condition that he destroy all documents pertaining to the litigation, including the Barnes deposition.

Until now, Corsi reports, Littwin has been under a gag order as part of his "negotiated settlement" with GTECH, under which he would suffer a $50,000 penalty if he discussed openly any details of his Texas Lottery employment.

12. Why would GTECH agree? It strikes me that they have nothing to
gain. Must have been some real pressure, as the article says. Wonder who applied the pressure from Judiciary. Sounds like someone who does not want Miss Harriet on the Court.

21. If the Repukes are forced to vote for Miers on the floor
They will have to choose between their constituents and Bushco when it is practically unspinnable why this crony should be on the Supreme Court. If her nomination dies in committee, then few Repukes will have to go on record as being against Bushco or their constituents.

So the Swift Boaties have written off Bush...that is how I see this. They are trying to recoup their losses in public opinion by distancing themselves from Bushco before 2006 (buying time?). They fellated Bush for five years and think that the American People will buy that they never like Bush in the first place. It won't work, but I appreciate them being desperate enough to cut Bush loose. They are doing our work for us.

Democrats should ubiquotously vote "no" on this nomination. There is no excuse not to, including the poorly-engineered excuse that we must fear what Bush would nominate next. Since when has fear ever gotten Democrats anywhere?

Now is the time....vote "no" on Meiers and the Repkes might actually hand us a far better nomination just to save face and have a chance in 2006. They lost their 50 billion budget cut this week, the Pres is bleeding supporters, and indictments are coming. There is no better time to strike a deathblow and return to some sanity before we elect a new Congress.
