If Democrats are looking for fresh faces, how about Cong. Barbara Lee?
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 09:58 AM by Armstead
Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California has often been in the "good fight" on issues, as a progressive legislator and advocate. She has also supported a lot of "common sense" ways to advance economic and social justice.

She also has great "presence." Strong and forceful, but in a dignified and personable way. She exudes a basic decency.

And as an African American woman, she is a good counter to the phony form of "diversity" the GOP is trying to project these days.

It seems to me that of the Democrats want to reinvigorate the party's image, she should be one of those given more prominence and "face time" as a representative of what our side stands for (or should stand for).

2. She spoke at the 9/24 protest.
She was powerful and inspiring. I'd support her.

4. I Would Agree
I've seen her speak. She is eloquent, forceful, and compelling.

And her courageous vote as the sole member of Congress to oppose giving Mad George limitless control over our military after 9-11 should certainly make her a hero in anyone's book.

I've written 2 checks to her campaign in the last year, and I'll probably write another one before Nov 2006.

I like her even better now

6. Agreed. Following in Jeanette Rankin's footsteps.
A veritable Profile in Courage and worthy of serving in Congress and beyond.

7. Go look it up on Google
Quite a story.

She was widely vilified for that vote by the Right, and has faced some fierce and highly financed opposition during her recent campaigns for re-election. Which is why I've sent her cash.

8. Barbara Lee is my congressperson,
and also is a member of my church. Our pastor, a very progressive and activist minister is her spiritual mentor.

I very much respect and admire Barbara Lee. She ain't about the Okey-Doke....that's for sure!

Her district is a safe one for her....that's goes without saying...but any donations to her campaign will be wisely spent for maximum return. She's what one might call an earnest and "working for the people" politician. Whatever she has to say, you can take it to the bank as the truth, and nothing but....

10. I think she said she wasn't interested, but she'd be great.
She's also good where she is right now. Senate?

12. Maybe...There area lot of fresh faces available.
But my main purpose here is to point out one who I believe has a lot of promise if she were inaclined and allowed to become a more visible spokesperson and leader of the Democrats.
