Iraq insurgency shows no signs of abating
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - With the grim milestone of the 2,000th U.S. military death looming in Iraq, many wonder about the direction of the insurgency that killed most of them.

Experts think the country's increasingly regional-oriented politics will fuel the insurgency and even spread it further inside Iraq. Others put forward a simple, disquieting scenario: So long as U.S. and other foreign troops remain in Iraq, the insurgency will continue.

"It will become more chaotic," predicted Magnus Ranstorp of the Swedish National Defense College in Stockholm, Sweden. "It is obvious that the United States is in Iraq to stay. If this is the case, the Shiites will likely join the Sunnis in the fight."

The 2,000 mark in U.S. military deaths is approaching at a time when Iraqi and U.S. officials are congratulating themselves that the Oct. 15 constitutional referendum and the start of Saddam Hussein's trial four days later passed without major bloodshed and destruction.

3. the Brits did a survey - 82% of Iraqi's want us OUT
63% say US troops are NOT helping bring security and safety.

We are in Vietnam mode - our folks can't tell good guys from bad guys and we seem to be doing more harm than good. Give them back their country and let them sort it out at OUR EXPENSE. That means we still have to PAY to rebuild their infrastructure - just that Halliburton is not the one benefitting.

5. If you really think about it:
You are suggesting that the Iraqi forces get to the point where they are defending U.S. troops and defending the occupation of their own country by foreign troops.

I respectfully submit to you that this scenario is simply not going to happen, given the poll cited to you by another poster.

There was no al qaida prior to our invasion, since Saddam had nothing in common with them. WE created the problem which we are currently making worse.

6. Pretty tough to do when 95% of the "insurgents" are IRAQIS.

2. Get the troops out of there. We are slaughtering civilians right and left.
THe Iraqis are mad. I don't blame them. If we pull out Halliburton and the troops the rest of the world would love to help I bet. Also, who is the insurgency? Two Brits were caught doing car bombs and 2 US troops. Who really is the enemy in Iraq? It's us. Get us out of there and * in prison. We are an absolute disgrace there with torture, murder, starving people, shooting civilians like a video game.

9. If Bush hadn't hid from Vietnam, he'd know this.
But he was AWOL, literally and figuratively, and he didn't learn.

Insurgencies always get stronger in time, and occupying forces get weaker.
