Cheney, Talent Photo-Op: Picture of Corruption
Washington, DC - Vice President Dick Cheney, who is currently entangled
in a federal criminal grand jury investigation of the improper and
possibly illegal outing of a covert CIA agent, will appear today at a
fundraiser for Missouri Rep. Jim Talent. Talent's decision to ask for
Vice President Cheney's help in raising special interest cash is an
indication that the Missouri Senator has decided to embrace the
Republican culture of corruption in Washington, DC.
Cheney's appearance comes at the end of a week dominated by
investigations into the ethical misconduct of the Republican leadership
in Washington, DC. This week, former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay
was booked in Texas on criminal charges of money laundering and White
House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove was forced to cancel three events,
after mounting controversy surrounding his own role in the leaking of an
undercover CIA agent's identity.
"Despite criminal investigations looming over Cheney, the White House
and Washington Republicans, Talent isn't distancing himself from the
Republican culture of corruption. Instead, he's profiting from it," said
Democratic National Committee spokesperson Amaya Smith. "America can do
better. Talent and Republicans in Washington should be renouncing the
abuse of power and business-as-usual attitude that has become the norm
in Washington, not cozying up to it."
