Target Letters today
Reading all over that the TARGET LETTERS will be delivered today (in all probability) Just theorizing as to how we're gonna find out who gets them. I really can't imagine it will be announced to the public. I suspect they will do everything in their power to keep it under wraps... making me wonder how this GOOD NEWS will be known. Guess we're going to be relying on the 'leakers'...

Fingers crossed and waiting as patiently as I can....for some word..

2. There may not be target letters
They aren't required and prosecutors usually issue them when they want to motivate their target to come in and testify some more.

7. I agree.
I think any target letters that were going to go out went out a good while ago. What would be the point of sending them now?

5. For some reason
I think the target letters go to the lawyers, saying their client is a target of an investigation.

At least, I think that's what I remember reading in Webster Hubbell's book.

I thought he said he didn't believe he was a target b/c he didn't have a letter. It turned out he did, and his lawyer didn't have the heart to tell him while he was out of town or something.

I'll have to pull out my copy of his book & read that section again.

6. I have a feeling they went out on Friday
delivered c/o the lawyers. Just a hunch, no evidence. So, when a lawyer says his client has not received a target letter, the lawyer's is "technically" not lying. The question needs to be asked specifically, "Mr. Smith, has a target letter naming your client been issued and received?"

There was a Camp David powwow this weekend with Bush, Card and others. I'm guessing they found out who and took the weekend to fill in the slots, get ready for an immediate statement from Bush as soon as it's announced...or possibly pull a West Wing like scoop and announce it complete with firings and fillings before the media has a chance.

8. That's possible but
isn't Fitzgerald convening the Grand Jury tomorrow, Tuesday, instead of either Wednesday or Friday, which is when they meet?

Maybe he's just going to thank them for their work, and then dismiss them. But most people thought he was going to give them his recommendations, and then let them do their job, which is to decide on indictments.

I'm not sure how the Grand Jury works, but isn't it they who issue indictments, not the prosecutor?

9. You're correct about who issues the indictments
as I understand it. But the target letters are a separate issue from the actual indictments or, rather, the decision of the indictments.

The target letters inform the individual(s) that they are being targeted for indictment.

Mary Matalin was a member of WHIG, wasn't she? So, perhaps she'll be getting some mail today.
