Hannity started the attack on Fitzgerald yesterday afternoon

He started talking about the deputy attorney general, Comey, who appointed Fitzgerald and how he (Comey) investigated the Clinton pardons and never came up with any indictments. Hannity implied that Comey is a left wing hack, and, through their friendship and association, Fitzgerald is a left wing hack also.

I think when Fitzgerald gets finished with this bunch in Washington, he should start an investigation of the lies told on right wing talk radio every single day. Liars, all of them.

1. Nothing like trashing a prosecutor to garner favor for the defense.

2. Nah, we should stand up for their First Amendment right

to lie. But make it clear that it's not men with guns fighting for oil companies that gives them that right, but rather the ACLU and other liberals. Remember we're the side that respects freedom of speech. Want to get Hannity off the air? Make him unprofitable.

3. Yes, but he is lying about people on the airwaves

Isn't the FCC concerned about this?? Why, they were concerned about Janet Jackson' body part, weren't they??? This is a lot more harmful to our nation's character and our children than a breast.

6. There's no law against lying

in public, or in the media. You just can't lie about someone in a defamatory manner. And even then, it's a civil matter, and would have to be taken up by the victim of the slander. No government prosecutor can get involved.

7. Shows where your priorities are

If you can't see the danger in a split-second of boob, you're clearly out of touch with the mainstream.

When pressed via legal action, Hannity and his vile ilk typically assert that, as commentators rather than journalists, they're expressing their own views rather than objective truth. As such, their "opinions" may or may not be consistent with reality.

That's a bullshit line of reasoning, of course, because they do posture themselves as reporters of news, but that's the usual excuse nonetheless.

Notice they never go after the actual issues, only minutiae that don't matter to the central case.

5. I can understand how smearing a political opponent can be

beneficial (not honorable, but in today's US beneficial). But how does smearing a federal officer, a legal officer of the court, gain you anything but scorn and odium? This, to me, seems to be a tactic that will come back to haunt these scum. Can anyone explain how this smear campaign is supposed to benefit the Bush mob?

9. Hannity has no shame

When he injects innuendo and association then attempts to represent himself as a news journalist, there should be a flashing red banner at the bottom of the screen with the words: "FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY"
