Because I got a call not long ago, and while I want the dems to win, I told the girl (nicely), "I won't give until the dems come out against the War in Iraq."

She tried the, well, it's a position of tactical strategy in order to get into office after which they can come out against the war full force, and I said, no, sorry, you've got it backwards - you get honest with voters beforehand, and if that means you support the war, you say so, and let the chips fall where they may.

Did I do the right thing?

13. Your aswer is much the same as mine. I went broke helping
in 2004 and I need to get my bills paid. I for one wish that we did not spend so much on the primary and save our money for the real fight. I cannot afford to lose again.

2. Yes you did
They call me twice a week. I tell them I donated more than I could afford in the last election and not all of it was used. I suggest they use that. From now on I am donating to individuals.

4. Actually, that's smart - give to anti-war individuals.

3. Yes, you did the right thing.

I'll answer similarly if they call me - sounds like that person calling had an answer prepared for you, too - maybe she's getting that response a lot.

5. I already have my Democracy Bond.
That's my contribution to the 50 state strategy - So I will only contribute more $ towards specific goals - not the general kitty.

12. I got one of those... But just give to liberal candidates directly...
And not those military ones.. They have tons of money already and star power. No give to the geeky ones who need it. Congress or Senate.

Give to my candidate!

Give to Senator Robert Byrd!

6. Do YOU think you did the right thing?
That's the important question. If you're satisfied with your answer to her and were truthful, you did the right thing. You don't need confirmation from us.

10. Sorry, the ? should be, this is what I did - would you have done that, too
Yes, I think I did the right thing - I guess I feel torn because the dems have fallen so far from the trailblazing party they used to be, and it's their own fault, to some extent.

Kerry's failure to decimate the SwiftLiars gave us the assclown we now suffer with

20. 'Zactly! I gave again at end of Oct04 for the final sprint and for nothin
I was pretty pissed that Kerry had all that $ left over instead of using it judiciously to help state candidates or his own campaign; I gave in response to the seemingly desperate email pleas for money from his campaign and the DNC. I might as well have thrown it into the gutter, and I will not fall for that again.

18. Still not sure about the differences but trying
I tried to start a thread on this yesterday thinking it would help me make decisions such as the one you mentioned.

Helping me select how I will spend my time, money and votes.

But it was a tough thread to keep alive and there was some resistance and mockery. In the end I got good feed back from quite a few, but I am still wondering why the dread word DLC brings such strong reactions and circumspect comments.

If anyone cares to discuss how the DLC and the base of the Democratic party interface pop over at the thread link below:

15. I don't think so
I give to them - not much but as much as I can - as often as I can.

I think it's important to fund the 50-state strategy. Otherwise we have no hope of winning in '06.

I wonder how many of these threads we'll have? If people don't want to give, don't. You're not going to get validation for your actions from everyone here. Some yes but not all. It tends to stir up the troops, though.

19. I would ask, very politely,
I would ask, very politely, for a positive reason (as opposed to a negative reason like, "You wouldn't want the Republicans to win, do you?") why I -- a gay, pacifist atheist -- should support a party that has repeatedly supported destroying my "fundamental human rights," unconditionally supports war, granted the president the unsupervised power of a tyrant and refuses to acknowledge that I am just as much an American patriot as any Christian fundamentalist.

I would then add, "Please, take your time in answering. I'll wait." I'll be damned if I will be the first one to hang up.

22. I tell them the following:
1. You don't have to convince me that the GOPs have to go and the Bush Admnistration is a total disaster.

2. I don't agree with the stands of all DLC-supported candidates, e.g., their stance on the Iraq War.

3. I am very active at Democratic Underground, so I learn first-hand which candidates I want to select for my support. (Which isn't much, but it's the principle of the thing.)

4. Good luck.
