1. If he'd said that, they should have included the quote |
|
The only one in the article:
snip> "I believe in the core values of the Democratic Party," Mr. Hackett said. "I'm not afraid to fight for them and my values. Some of them are conservative, including on Second Amendment rights.
"A Democrat in Ohio can get all of the Democratic votes in the northeastern and central parts of the state and still not get elected," he said. "It's got to be somebody who believes in the values of all Ohioans, and that takes winning over independents and conservatives."

is that Brown is too liberal. It will be interesting to see how he approaches this issue in the future.

3. uh, taken literally, he's wrong, unless he thinks every single |

adult outside of NE and central OH will vote and vote Republican, which they won't.
Cleveland and Columbus together have many more people than Cincinnati, and obviously anyone who could win all the Dem votes in those areas would also win some, if not many, independents and maybe a few conservatives.
I realize he is speaking figuratively, but until he demonstrates he has more appeal than Sherrod Brown, I think he should attack the Rethugs instead. Heaven knows he has plenty of things to talk about there.

by talking about things important to those constituencies, like gun rights. But there are two things I don't like: when this becomes the center of a campaign, and when they don't tell you what they'd do if they got elected.
It's one thing to say, "I'm a gun owner and a sportsman and guns are a part of my life, and I will not put the government in the homes of law abiding gun users to interfere with their safe and legal use."
It's another thing never to add, "but this is an issue that has been used to divide America by convincing people whose economic best interests and whose communities are best served by the Democratic Party not to vote Democratic -- which is why I want do for you everything that (Sherrod Brown has tried to do for you -- like end poverty, protect labor, promote unions, provide free primary and secondary education, ensure that there is a public university system that provides people with opportunity, etc. etc."
