Fitzgerald Must Broaden Investigation

"The CIA leak issue is only the tip of the iceberg," Congressman Jerry Nadler told me when I ran into him on the street near our offices on Friday afternoon. He was quick to tell me of a call--led by Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and Nadler, along with 39 of their House colleagues--for Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation to be expanded to examine whether the White House--President, Vice-President, and members of the WH's Iraq War Group--conspired to deliberately deceive Congress into authorizing the war. And, as Nadler reminded me, lying to Congress is a crime under several federal statutes.

This is the first call by members of Congress for an expansion of Fitzgerald's probe, amid mounting evidence that there was a well-orchestrated effort by what former State Department aide Larry Wilkerson dubbed last week, "the Cheney-Rumsfeld axis" to hijack US foreign policy and knowingly mislead the Congress in order to get its support for an unlawful war.

"We are no longer just talking about a Republican culture of corruption and cronyism," Nadler says. "We now have reason to believe that high crimes may have been committed at the highest level, wrongdoing that may have led us to war and imperiled our national security." For more on this important call for the investigation's expansion, click here,:http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ny08_nadler/FitzgeraldwarMemo102005.html and then click here:http://www.capwiz.com/thenation/dbq/officials to ask your elected reps to support these calls.

12. I'm so sorry.
At least you can write him raging mail when things go wrong. There is no point in raging at Nadler. He's on my side.

5. i think all the excitement...
of Fitzmas is taking its toll. While it's encouraging to see anyone taking any kind of action, i find it depressing that congress is so far behind the curve on everything going on. Their hair should be on fire.

6. That is so true...
Members of Congress should have been screaming from the rafters, about the BushCo crimes and injustice.

It seems as if Fitz did the job that Congress AND the media should have been doing.

Watergate had Woodstein, and Plamegate has Fitzgerald.

I always assumed we were doomed, because the media was asleep and corrupt. I feel so fortunate that we have this dignified, justice-seeking, professional prosecutor who will help to save America.

20. They should have been screaming from the rafters long before the...
...2004 election, about rightwing Bushite corporations gaining control of the vote tabulation with SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code--code so secret not even our secretaries of state are permitted to review it.

THAT'S when they should have screamed. Warned us. Something. Instead of dead silence, then, and now.

It's incomprehensible.

Wake up, people! Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

18. Couldn't congress see through the propaganda.
This is bordering on the pathetic. The whole world knew that this whole WMD story was bullshit but congress chose to believe the WH, didn't any of them research the subject on their own. For god's sake they were gonna declare war, wouldn't they want to make an informed decision. I mean why would any democrat trust the WH. Why didn't any of them ever try to counter the propaganda? How hard is it to simply scoff at the whole mushroom cloud episode, the WH had absolutely no proof that Saddam still had WMDs, the sort of things they presented as proof had already been refuted by the CIA. Couldn't any dem pick up on that. I sorry to say this, but the dems are complicit in this great deception either by their incompetence or their silence.

24. And when will Congress get prison torture and missing money and
misspent money jump started? And what about the lousy care some of these vets are getting?

Why should soldiers and vets have to pay for anythig caused by 'sacrificing' for the corporations and their stockholders? And George wants them to sacrifice some more.
