bush skipped his chance to fight and now says having more die
for his mistake will make it better for the ones who have already
died or have been wounded for his blunder.

from skeleton closet (G.W. Bush)

To put it in perspective, here are 9 ways Bush got favored treatment in the service due to his political connections (he was then son of a Congressman and grandson of a former Senator):
1) He got into the Guard by pulling strings, avoiding the year and a half waiting list;
2) He took a 2-month vacation in Florida after just 8 weeks, (1 of 3 leaves), to work on a political campaign;
3) Bush skipped Officer Candidate School and got a special commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, without qualifications;
4) He was assigned to a safe plane (being phased out of active service), the F-102 ;
5) During flight school, he was flown on a government jet to Washington for a date with President Nixon's daughter Tricia ;
6) Bush got an illegal transfer (later overruled) to a base with no work;
7) He simply didn't show up for a YEAR, with no penalty;
8) George W. skipped all his medical exams after they started drug tests, and was removed from flight status;
9) He ended his service 10 months early to go to Harvard Business School;

5. Yeah, I'd like to see that comparison
Is there a link to it? I'm curious what basis they use to claim "support."

17. Thanks! I love how DUers are always ready with answers.
I thought the colors were indicative of level of support, but apparently when they say, "see how your states supports," they mean "read the statements of support from your state."

Peculiar wording and coloring choices, eh?

9. That piece of shit graphic was the backdrop for Monkey's speech to the
military wives the other day. And I will bet a chunk of money that the backdrop was provided by the White House, not by the Wives' Club. It was probably designed by the same bozo who drummed up this beauty:

12. AFAIK, Americas REALLY support the troops by paying Federal Income Taxes
Right-wingers and others who wish to show their support for the troops should use those magnets to show their Federal Income Tax Returns.

See the pie chart HERE: http://www.warresisters.org/piechart.htm
to figure out how much YOU personally contributed to support the troops.

Take the total you paid in Federal Income Taxes for 2005, multiply that by 0.48 - which is the percent of the federal spending which goes to supporting the troops, and you have YOUR PERSONAL "MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS" NUMBER for how much you support the troops. The 48% figure is current military spending + support of veterans, (who deserve both our support and the classification of 'the troops').

It's that easy - just take the amount you pay in Federal Income Tax, multiply by 0.48, and PRESTO, you have the dollar amount that you personally contributed to SUPPORTING THE TROOPS. The feds should send you a gold pin with your refund check, indicating how much you contributed to the troops.

13. do they even know what happens to dogtags for dead soldiers in the field?
at least in vietnam, they put them in the fallen soldier's teeth and jammed his jaw, locking the dogtags in place, so that even if the body decomposed, the dogtag could be found.

these people are morbid.

15. uh, thank all of us for our freedoms.
Not to knock soldiers or the military or guard, but those "freedoms" are being fought for right here in the U.S., every single day.

Blowing up a building in NYC did not impact our freedoms. Saddam Hussein did not impact our freedoms. Not even Osama bin Laden impacted our "freedoms".

But the DHS reading your email, watching your surfing, getting lists of your library and bookstore purchases, "sneak & peek"ing your home, putting you on terror watch lists and no-fly lists and arresting you for developing a picture with a red thumbtack on a poster of this pretender of a president - that's losing your freedoms. Losing your right to protest tyranny, to have your voice heard outside of a "free speech zone" and to not be shot at with rubber bullets, beanie bags and tear gas at a presidential convention is a loss of freedom right here. Losing the right to understand how our government sets economic and energy policy and the right to demand a full majority (instead of "up or down" bullshit bare majority tactics) to place federal and supreme court judges, the freedom to have judges not installed by recess appointment NOT in times of emergency and the freedom not to live in artificially generated fear every time it's expedient for the administration to divert our attention from a critical issue.

Freedom from tyranny in the form of loss of pension plans to corporate bailouts, in the form of loss of the ability to sue your HMO for removing your left lung instead of the lump left in your leg, being told that you don't have a right to your own home because a GAP store can make better use of the land your home sits on, being told that you cannot emigrate to another country if you have unresolved debt in America, being told that your children will be drafted and that corporations have a greater right to profit than living human individuals have a right to live -

THESE ARE FREEDOMS PROGRESSIVES FIGHT FOR EVERY SINGLE DAY, right here in America, and that some even die while fighting for medical assistance, medicine, housing, the health and welfare of our children.

And a thousand more. We are all, each of us with open eyes and the heart to fight, we are each of us heroes.

That logo looks like something you'd see in Wal-Mart next to the birthday cards, Chinese-made flags and posters and coffee mugs.

GOP Gear squared.
