You must read this.
I don't know if this has been published here yet but you must read it. It will blow your mind:

The day started pretty much like all of the others since my son had left for Iraq. I automatically woke up to surf the major news networks at 3 A.M. to see if anything newsworthy had happened in Baghdad while I had slept. It seemed as if it had been a quiet night and there were no new reports, so I turned off the television and went back to sleep. The phone rang and I woke up in a nanosecond, which was a trait that I had mastered since the first call I had gotten in the middle of the night from a war zone.

"Hey Mom it’s me." Something my son always said every time he called, but this time his voice sounded unusual. He had a really serious tone in his voice and the automatic gunfire in the background was loud and more constant than usual. My heart began to race and I took a deep breath.

"Hey, I'm trapped on a rooftop and I don't think we are going to make it out of here, so I just called to tell you that I loved you and that I am thinking of all of you." The gunfire in the background was so loud that he had to pause, and then he continued. "We were out on patrol and were just getting ready to return to base and a bunch of our guys got overrun and so we went to help them, but when we got close we got overrun as well and had to retreat to this rooftop."

I could hear yelling in the background and then big explosions. The phone then seemed to be put on the ground and there was more yelling and automatic gunfire, but this time it was my son who was doing the shooting. My son picked up the phone and in an out of breath voice said, "I really don't think we are going to make it out of here alive. If we wait longer to get off this rooftop there is no way we can make it back because we do not have enough ammo and it is getting dark. We have called in air support and it has not come yet, and if they do not come in a minute we are all going to be dead. Just tell everybody that I love them and if I do not call you back within four hours that means I did not make it."

1. makes me angry
that our media has been knowingly duped into NOT reporting and keeping us all abreast on whats going on in IRAQ.

I never thought I would see the day where our government has a choke hold on the news media. Unbelievable that our media has turned into "jacked up journalism hoes"

2. That is one of the most gut wrenching stories I have ever read.
I tried to put myself in both positions -- the son and the mother. I cannot imagine the emotion and fear that they both must have been feeling.

That letter has left me absolutely stunned.

7. Sure...

They have to buy their own gun lubricants, fasten steel scraps for armor and they get body armor sent from family members. Why not a satellite phone?

8. That's really tough.......
and heartbreaking. I can't help but wonder though, why would a soldier who's life is in immanent danger be making a cell phone call? The last thing I'd want to do is upset my parents at a time like that. Continue your fighting and let the chips fall where they may but for god's sake don't call your parents in the middle of a gun battle and shatter their nerves. That's just my opinion.

18. If you're pretty sure you're going to die, as I bet this kid was,
then you do think about saying goodbye. I could see my kids doing that too. At least his mother knows what happened. It's terrible, it would have been horrible for her, but her son made sure he said goodbye and didn't leave her wondering. He must have loved his mom very much.

23. I would've at least
had a text message ready to send and could just point and click it to my parents phone. I'm sure the mother has her phone on at all times.

9. You must read this too.
Actually, I don't often read obscure badly titled threads. But sometimes I not as busy as usual and have some idle curiosity.

17. I wish stories like this were reported
in the msm everyday, to remind all of us of the pain and suffering that our soldiers and their families experience daily.

They pray for the safety of their sons/daughters; and they look for news, any news of what is going on over there.....
..and they see none.

20. I'm at that school and know many
with sons, brothers, daughters, sisters, friends, even dads and moms over there. It's both happy and sad in a way. You get to talk to your loved one easier than ever, but dammit you should be talking across a table, not across the globe! *sigh*

Holding good thoughts for all those in danger.
