Another possible (very speculative) reason for sealed indictments? |
|
This is probably way too optimistic dreaming in the middle of the night, but...
According to other threads, Fitzgerald just leased office space, more than he has now. That suggests to me that the scope of his investigation may increase, such as possibly making it formal that he can investigate the forged Niger documents and even the fake case for war.
But here's a juicy speculation: Isn't the guy in charge of the Franklin/AIPAC investigation getting a position at DoJ? And people have suggested that there are connections between Franklin and the Plame case, and that the two prosecutors have communicated about it. So why not combine the two investigations under Fitzgerald? Hmmm, wonder if there are Abramoff connections too? That could get really juicy. If they're connected, it makes sense to have one office and one prosecutor on the job.
Now here's where sealed indictments come in. Looks like he's already flipped multiple people in the admin and gotten agreements to cooperate from them. But no one knows for sure which ones have flipped, AND they're all still working in the White House. Where they have easy access, for instance, to any of their papers and records and emails that might perhaps concern Franklin, Abramoff, or whatever else. "You only agreed to cooperate on the Plame matter, but if you have your fingers in any of these other things, it might behoove you to come clean before we find out from someone else." So no one's indictment becomes public until Fitz is ready for them to be fired from the White House and lose access.
Am I having loony, woke-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night fantasies?

Inquiries often fuel new charges The prosecutor in the Valerie Plame case may end up building a case unrelated to the original claims. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x168272Rove Aide's Name Appears in Two Washington Inquiries - NYT(Abramoff and Plame) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1880479

2. Thanks. I missed that second story you mentioned. |

So much corruption, so little time to keep track of it all.
