Poll question: Did Miers withdraw on her own or did Bush ask her
After 5 years of the Bush regime there is one thing we all know way too well - Bush doesn't back down from any mistake that he has made. Never in a million years would Bush pull the Miers nomination just like he told ex-FEMA director Michael Brown that he was doing a great job with the Katrina aftermath. Had someone did this under Clinton's watch - heads would have been rolling.

So today's poll question - in light of the official 'withdrawal' of Harriet Miers, I ask you this:

Did Harriet Miers withdraw because she wanted too or because Bush wanted to save face and asked her to withdraw

6. That's what I'm beginning to think
But I don't think the strategy worked. If it was a strategy I don't think the whole Republican party was aware of it. Because most of the criticism was coming from the right.

If the supposed 2nd is supposed to be worse (meaning more neo-con) and then if a fillibuster happens then it would not be recieved well by the nation - the democrats were rather quiet on Miers and when they did have troubles it was more on the incompleteness of the record. That is viable complaint.

I think the RNC and White House are not on the same page.

4. usually it is indirect
The nominee is requested by a third party to withdraw. The third party is the cut out so that the president isn't directly involved. however in reality the president has made the decision to pull the plug.

As this is a huge embarassment to the failed/failing bush residency, I rather doubt it was the plan all along.

8. Other. I think this was the plan all along. He knew that she
would never be confirmed, but I don't think he expected his base to turn on him. He thought he could make the Democrats look like obstructionists so when he made his "real" nomination, they would be unable to block it without doing themselves grave political harm.

That plan backfired on him, so I fully expect his next nominee to be the one over which the right wingnuts will be able to have that fight that they've been yearning for. Hang on to your hats, folks. This battle has only begun and things are likely to get real nasty.

9. there is no way * planned this withdrawal
that is just way more mental forward thinking than I judge the idiot capable of. No, he tried his hardest to put someone in who kisses his ass without fail; he's gonna need it soon.

It's HIS presidency and HE'LL choose who HE wants, dammit.

Loyalty is the numero uno qualification for El DimBulb.

p.s. He's always gotten his way up to this point. I don't think he expected HIS own people to turn on him.

12. Press and pundits
are saying that too. They say (I agree) that her withdrawal was inevitable so this timing was convenient. Distract the press for a day and then people will forget about the failed nomination when the press turns to the indictments.
Then he can act presidential, nominating someone with a fresh start.

13. I wish you would have said Bush's handlers wanted to save face
Bush's doesn't do anything without handlers.

I voted on Bush vs other. Harriet is too stupid to decide.
