Miers Summed Up By One Question: |
|
Does the President's failed nomination indicate that he was merely trying to place a shill in the SCOTUS to protect him from the possibility of an upcoming impeachment?

2. Ummmm... she'd have no role in any impeachment. |

The Senate tries articles of impeachment and is presided over by the Chief Justice and he's there merely to assist in clarifying matters of law that the Senate is meant to ultimately decide for itself.
The role Miers would have had was concerning civil cases regarding separation of powers and the equality or inequality of the three branches.

5. The Supreme Court had a major role in the impeachment of |
|
Nixon. It forced the White House to turn over the tapes which led to Nixon's downfall.

8. That's a different story, and an indirect role. |

Well the point being is that Miers would be little good as a buffer against impeachment ITSELF and an impeachment trial ITSELF. Indirectly, all you say is certainly true, and I agree, that may have been a consideration...

12. Bush has made a fetish out of hiding incriminating records, |
|
even those going back through Poppy's days in the White House. I think he was hoping Miers would be on the Court to help him stonewall.

10. Why aren't the Dems on every camera putting forth the idea |
|
of why Meirs pulled her nomination? I would love to know what they are hiding in those papers and invoking executive privilege. I mean, strike while the iron is hot, put forth the idea ol' Harriet knew something about the Rove/Cheney et al mess. Come on, this is exactly how the repugs would handle the situation if the shoe was on the other foot. They would completely skew the discussion and cut the legs out from under any other nominee just because they could. Misdirecting and obscuring the discussion is their forte.
We all know she wasn't qualified, that the executive privilege is a smoke screen for Chimpy but let's run with it.
All together now, "Why are Chimpy and Harriet hiding behind executive privilege nonsense? What do we need to know? Is it about the lies that led us to war?" It would at least give us a few amusing moments getting them off message.

6. THE SCOTUS has no say in an impeachment. The Chief Justice |
|
presides but no one else from the Court participates

I think that her nomination was an attempt to invade the Supreme Court and infect it with politics, just as so many other entities have been invaded and infected over the past 6 years.
