"My Little Crony" trots off to the barn, who's at the starting gate now?
Is the next choice to be wingnut extraordinaire? Is the revised strategy to pick a Lutig, Owens, Jones so the Democrats have no choice but to fight tooth-and-nail thus creating the much needed distraction from indictments, the war, heating/gas prices?

Miers was a subpar crony but she wasn't a guaranteed wingnut. Is W pissed that it was really his Rapturist Right base that forced him into getting her to withdraw?

1. Some think he'll 'get back' at his fundie base by
nominating a moderate with credentials who he thinks won't overturn Roe v. Wade.

He's snippy like that.

2. He's not all that concerned about right/left.
He just needs a reliable crony to keep his soft white butt out of jail. This will be the only criterion.

3. I think the wingnuts have him by the b*lls now and won't let go
They were promised a wingnut SC nominee from him and they have him in a vice grip.

He tried the crony, pro-business choice and got backlash.

The good news is this may precipitate the final fracture in the Republican party.

4. Bush will never run for another elective office
He has no need whatever for the fundies. And with Rove out of service, he has no strong link to them.

His only measure now is his 'legacy'.

5.  Yes, but I think Bush wants Gonzales, not pushed into an uber-Bork.
