and the more radical his next nominee is, the WEAKER he is.
Pre-Meiers, a radical right wing pick would be sold as a sign of his "boldness" :puke: now it will be a sign of his WEAKNESS.

4. A president who is this politically crippled should just resign. |
|
Seriously, the country is poorly served by a president who is doomed to be a lame duck for the remainder of his term. He is not politically effective anymore.

against a radical conservative. He's caught between mainstream America and the extremists on the fringe right.

7. Bush has always been weak, he just had two bullies behind him |
|
Back in 2001, Bush's ratings were declining from January and never rose until his bullhorn moment (didn't take much genius from anyone to advise him to climb a pile of rubble and put his arm around a firefighter). There was talk about Bush being a lame duck president six months into his first term!
He has two bullies: Rove and Cheney. Everything else is a Potemkin village and the media collaborated out of fear of denial of access. Now that they have grown the rudiments of a spine, the facade is crumbling and the emperor's robes are looking very ragged in the wind.
