Hmmm... Supreme Court Justice John Cornyn?
The more I think about this, the more sense it makes. He's from Texas. He's got a perfect rating from the American Conserv. Union. He was Attorney General of the State of Texas and a District Court Judge and State Supreme Court Justice for over 15 years. He's only 53 years old.

Cornyn was one of the few conservatives to support Miers, so by picking him Chimpy would be sending the conservatives who fought him a message. But the conservatives can't oppose Cornyn because of his record and qualifications. Plus, as a US Senator and member of the Judiciary Committee, his confirmation would be guaranteed -- Senators don't eat their own.

The only thing working against him: he's a white male. That makes it a long shot, but I wouldn't rule it out.

3. Satan! Get thee behind me! Bite your tongue!!
He's my asshole idiot senator, and rather than inflict him on the entire USofA, I will sacrifice myself on the Altar of The Common Good and keep him in place rather than allow him to go onto The Highest Court in The Land.

Cornyn as SC Justice - egads!

8. Two words - Tulia, Texas
One need only Google the word Tulia, Texas to see the type of man Cornyn is. He was AG of TX when a renegade cop locked up almost 80% of a small texas town's black population for dealing drugs. Cornyn didn't give a shit.

9. The Cornyn-Abramoff connection
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cornyn

On November 12, 2001, Reed sent Abramoff an e-mail message stating, "get me details so I can alert cornyn and let him know what we are doing to help him" . Similarly, on November 13, 2001, Reed wrote "I strongly suggest we start doing patch-throughs to perry and cornyn . We're getting killed on the phone." Also, on January 7, 2002, Reed sent Abramoff an e-mail stating "I think we should budget for an ataboy for cornyn" .

When Cornyn ran for Senate, Abramoff contributed $1,000, the maximum amount legally allowed. The allegedly anti-gambling Cornyn also received $6,250 in contributions from Las Vegas casino interests who oppose Indian gaming...

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"It does not affect your daily life very much if your neighbor marries a box turtle. But that does not mean it is right. ... Now you must raise your children up in a world where that union of man and box turtle is on the same legal footing as man and wife." - John Cornyn III, June 2004
