What is our plan to win back the working class vote? |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:17 PM by nickshepDEM
Is it just me or are working class people in your cities and neighborhoods abandoning the Democratic party in droves? Im sitting here pondering over the past several elections and the bottoming out of our overwheliming union support. We used to be preceived by everyone, as the party of the working class, but in my opinion, that perception is no longer there.
What can we do to earn this back?
-Will a candidate like Edwards who reeks of Ecnomic Populism do the trick?
-A unified message in 2006 that all democrats will unite against unfair 'free' trade agreements?
-Unified support for a national health care system and a living wage?
Or will it take an economic depression to wake people up?

1. Make economic justice a priority. Raise minimum wage, support union |

membership. Don't be afraid to mercilessly rip the shit out of any opposition.

People need to WAKE UP and open their eyes to the fact that they have been manipulated by the GOP into screwing themselves!

4. Ed Schultz gets on this several times a month. |

I am an unashamed, unabashed "Big Ed" Ed Head. I think it's subliminal - although Ed is younger then I am, there's something quirky about Ed that reminds me of my late father and his cronies.
Ed suggestion #1 - "Church" - not as a theological thing, just belt out the hymns, shake the Pastor's hand after services, shoot the shit with the other bored guys in the parking lot, join the bowling league - you don't need to pay attention to the theology. It's a social and community thing.
Ed suggestion #2 - go deer hunting -- it thins out the deer population -- and deer are dangerous to drivers of small cars. Remember, deer are not "Bambi" - they are accidents waiting to happen.
The gist of some of Ed's suggestions - we have gotten too uppity and elitist.
The Dems are a working folks party. Remember that.

5. Pander to ignorance and hate? |

It works for the Repukes. The "working class" has obviously been convinced that as long as they can swing their monthly SUV payments, they're members of the financial elite. I'm at a loss. The USA seems grimly determined to join Iran in the 13th century. What an exclusive club!

6. So fucking true. The amount of lower middle class and middle class |
|
people in this country who think they are 'rich' is truly sickening. I know more people than I can count on my hands and feet that live nearly paycheck to paycheck, but insist that they are doing well.
