Students at Highland Park High School dressed as gang members, rap stars, maids and yard workers this month during homecoming week – a tradition one Dallas civil-rights leader says is racially insensitive.

On senior Thug Day, students wore Afro wigs, fake gold teeth and baggy jeans. On Fiesta Day, which was to honor Hispanic heritage, one student brought a leaf blower to school.

"The scary part of something like this is you have to wonder how long these kids will continue to think this way," said Bob Lydia, president of the Dallas chapter of the NAACP. "These kids will be leaders of this country one day."

Mr. Cates said the school's leaders will monitor the student council's selection of homecoming theme days in the future. Thug Day was not sanctioned by the school, but several students said seniors have dressed in gang-style and hip-hop attire for at least three years.

Disgusting and in Texas of all places. There are some people who just want to drag the country down as far as they can.

This is completely disgusting.

What parents, principals and teachers would go along with this?

Unbelievable.

7. Girl who wore "wife beater" shirt: "We're just having fun,"

Lauren Perella said she wore a "wife-beater" tanktop and tennis shoes with only one sock. "We're just having fun," she said.

Ok, this brat needs to be sentenced to volunteer at an abused family/women shelter for a really, really long time...epecially since this month is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

10. This is highland park
A 99% white school district with maybe an asian thrown in. Its not in Dallas its its own town. They refuse all federal aid to avoid busing.

ITS not a real place.

This is kool-aid central. Probably the greatest concentration of Young Republicans in the nation.

I have relatives from their and went to a wedding. I'm surprised all the guys didn't start doing each others hair. They use more conservative buzzwords then anyother group I've ever witnessed and are obsessed with status.

A relative from there 25 years ago told me I need to make 250k to raise a family decently.

11. And it was in this town that chimp had his Election Day eve "rally"
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 11:10 PM by rainbow4321
The orchestrated rally he had at midnight the night before Election Day 2004 (not that he was actually elected that Tuesday but you know what I mean)....at SMU. Also it's the neighborhood that Pickles has said they are/were considering buying a house once their asses are out of the WH since that is where they lived before he was TX gov.

From the article:

Highland Park High's student body is about 94 percent white. The school has six black, 65 Hispanic and 32 Asian students.
