Miers's Supporters Wince at How She Was Treated; She Seems to Bear Up Well

By LYNETTE CLEMETSON and RALPH A. BLUMENTHAL

...

Through weeks of ceaseless, often vicious, criticism of everything from her intellect and credentials to her makeup and wardrobe, several friends said Ms. Miers had maintained the quiet focus and nearly blind optimism that, up to now, helped propel her career.

Those close to her, though, are less reticent, blaming conservative critics for what they call ruthless attacks and the White House for a flailing defense.

"I'm disappointed as an American that the religious Taliban in the Republican Party have had their way," said James Parsons III, a Texas state judge, Democrat and Ms. Miers's predecessor as president of the Texas bar in the early 1990's.

Referring to the continuing federal investigation into who leaked the name of a CIA operative to dampen criticism of the war in Iraq, Joe Norton, a former colleague and close friend of Ms. Miers for more than 25 years, said: "It was mismanaged, perhaps because others in the White House are tied up in their own affairs. The White House didn't pay attention, and the right just chewed her up. It was like a gang, a lynch mob."

2. But in blocking her appointment, hasn't the radical Right Wing...
... now precluded the "nuclear option", since they, themselves, wouldn't allow an up-or-down vote for her appointment on the Senate floor?

3. I think one reason the extremist RW opposed Meir is they want a fight...
They want a knock down, drag out public fight on their agenda. They weren't opposed to Harriet on judicial experience, cronyism or even social ideology. They opposed her on political grounds...she couldn't, perhaps wouldn't, be the lightning rod they need to maintain their agenda.

6. Yes, the RW (Christians) please don't included us JC followers are
out for blood. You know, Jesus said, rob your neighbor, bear false witness against him, covet all that he has etc.., they are the anti Christ, the true perpetrator of crimes and yet they win, because, stupid sites like DU has so many anti Christian members, and the Muslims (which actually are more educated in the Bible (or the controversial scripts, opened my eyes) than DU could've done!

You are alienating the silent majority (we are silent because we actually practice what has been preached, not like the RE !),

Keep bashing us, and well, H.Ross Perot who I voted for, twice will have higher no's than any candidate you put up!

I have no clue, but if you have to use a website, to feel high and mighty, go to a shrink, in the long run you will feel better.

4. Bush put her out there as a sacrificial lamb
And the right wing wackos devoured her chances. W has been totally emascualated by the right wing. Anyone doing business with the WH needs to check with Ann, Laura, or Rushbo. They run the the presidency.

8. My letter in the local paper....
I was rather shocked that the local news paper printed my letter on Creationism which also included some harsh but honest words about the state of Christiandom, I am rather proud of it so I thought I would share it with you all...

Keep creationism out of classroom

On this issue of creationism in the classroom:

To be frank, there really is no issue here. Creationism is for Sunday School, not something that taxpayers need to be paying for. Creationism has no place in the science department of a public school, if they want this superstition taught as a science I suggest that they send their children to Catholic or private school.

There is NO scientific evidence that supports this myth/superstition of creationism, only faith. Such things belong in a church. This right-wing push is just domestic terrorism to enforce and impose their ideals onto a society that they feel is “misled” or “lost”. I refuse their ideologies, their conniving and malicious intentions to force America (and abroad) to see things their way.

I have never met an atheist, agnostic or Islamic person who forced their views on me. None of those other “religions” has ever been forceful, the only religion that has caused the most damage to this planet and people is Christianity.

More blood has been shed because of Christianity than any other religious sect. To top it off, it's not even the foundation that Jesus meant it to be. Jesus was the ultimate liberal and they will not acknowledge this because it would mean that their agenda is not valid and has no meaning. Between the crusades, the black plague of the dark ages and the War in Iraq, I do not see why anyone would want to be part of a sect that does not even understand what their religion really means.

Forcing a religious point of view onto others is no different than al-Qaida. Christianity has its extremists, as does the al-Qaida sect. You don't have to have people strapped with bombs to be a terrorist. Governmental manipulations and false claims can be social bombs as well. When a country such as the United States, which began its own terrorist activities in 1492, bases its new government on a clear separation of church and state, it means exactly that. Why did the pilgrims flee England?

Creationism is just another ploy by the right-wing to further their agenda of total social influence and control. If they are not out protesting an IMAX movie that explores evolution or even hints at it, they are bombing abortion clinics for Jesus. If they want to rule/ruin a country, I suggest they do as the Vatican and form their own city (Vatican City), preferably on an island somewhere. If that is not an option, then they should pay taxes. All churches are currently tax exempt and if they want to have influence in the government other than by force, manipulation and deceit, I suggest they start by paying taxes. Tax them and double tax the rich.

If separation of church and state was being followed through like it was meant, matters such as creationism in science class would not be mentioned or considered. Church morals and ethics would not have an influence on gay marriage, abortion or what happens behind closed doors. Christianity is not the guiding light of the world, it's more like a cancer.

The major solution to all the problems in society is the silencing of the Christian community and all of its branches. Creationism is a theory based only on faith. Evolution is based on hard science that has real proof. When we do discover life elsewhere in the universe, which we will, the same thing will happen. Christians will claim it's God and scientists will say “shut up.”

Life is hard to explain. The complexity of DNA cannot be re-created in a lab. It's impossible. So I can understand why someone may not be able to wrap their head around evolution and be quick to say it was the act of a supreme being. They may be correct. I am sure this planet was seeded, but not necessarily by God.

10. We're Supposed To Feel Sorry For That Punching Bag?
Besides how this lady enables this regime and just on that basis alone she's not only unqualified to serve in Kangeroo Court lest the Supreme Court. She probably knows a bunch of those dirty little secrets Mr. Fitzgerald is investigating as well.

This lady also play booooosh's fixer. Need a new DL so no one can trace a 25 year old DUI? No problem. Wanna make those nasty National Guard records vanish? Cool! Roe vs. Wade? Methinks this lady thought this was a discussion about how to get across the Potomac.
