(Insert name) deserves an up or down vote |
|
I was so goddamned tired of hearing the right throw that phrase around when there was simply talk of blocking federal judges with the filibuster that I wanted to puke. So what happens? The right deprives their own candidate, Miers, of not only an up or down vote, but even a hearing!
This should be a call to all dems to absolutely resist whichever right-wing, conservative idealogue * names next. They should kill the next nominee in committee, if they can, or filibuster and call the repug's weak hand, all the while pointing out that thanks to the right's blatant hypocrisy, a guaranteed up or down vote is no longer even on the fucking table.
Force * to name a centrist rather than allowing him to pander to his small-eyed, comb-over-laden base. Let him know it's better, especially at this point, to represent the moderate majority in the country on the supreme court.

1. The interesting thing about this process and the Corporate Media |

...people like my Depression era WWII parents are getting a real education. Lockstep (fiscal conservative) Republican voters, and they're getting fairly pissed at the exposure of the Right Wing's influence on the Repub party.
Keep it up NEOCONS. You're playing your hand at your own expense.

3. I would have been just fine with giving her a hearing |

I opposed her, but this business of forcing her to withdraw before she had a chance to defend herself reminded me of the Lani Guiner fiasco in 1993.

By "borking" Miers, the far right doesn't realize they might have done us a big favor. Call it Schaivo II. People are seeing these same whackos who wanted to play god in that case, now ready to overthrow the Supreme Court. It looks even scarier considering how this regime attempted to pander to this element with Miers (what a nice "xtian lady") but even that wasn't good enough.
Be assured that a Dobson "approved" candidate will trigger a massive backlash...not just within our ranks, but even within the Repugnican party (those who want the money, not the Jesus) and the Independents and Moderates. The popular pressure could bottle up this nomination.
Again...I remind folks here about the "Gang of 14". There will not be a nominee presented who doesn't get at least some support/approval from this group.
