Important update on "The Guy James Show" Please keep kicked
Here's the story: Last Wednesday we were contacted by the radio stations where we broadcast our show and they informed us they would pre-empt our program for Hurricane Wilma in favor of wall to wall weather info. Ok, I understood that. However, when it was determined that Wilma would arrive somewhat later than expected the stations went ahead with their regular Saturday programming but did not inform us of the change. We tuned in Saturday evening only to hear a re-broadcast of Rush Limbaugh's friday program. I was incensed.

We were then informed that we would be replaced by Gator Football. They changed another of their stations which carried the Gator Football network over to Latino music and had to move the sports over to our station. This meant that we were out the door in favor of more profitable programming.

Our stations carry Right-Wing propaganda programs almost 24/7 and we were the only voice for the Left in S.W. Florida. We object to the lack of fairness and balance by Meridian Radio Company of Ft. Myers. They did offer us "a fair opportunity to broadcast the Guy James Show" on Sunday mornings. As you know Sunday mornings are dead time for radio so we declined their "generous" offer. The fact is that they were getting "heat" from their right-wing listeners and they wanted us out of there. So, we're gone for this moment.

We are negotiating with a couple of other stations that may want to carry our show. There is even a possibility that we might be able to broadcast monday thru friday.

So, our plans are to return soon.....very soon! Possibly next week.

Stay tuned,
Guy

2. Good Luck - Florida radio - and TV is an unpleasent change from Boston
Granted that local AAR is only on daylight stations 1200 and 1430 - both must drop to 5000 watts at dark - but that is sure more than you get south of Tampa!

3. "in favor of more profitable programming."
I believe this is your problem. And, that's the way radio (and all business) is. And...there's nothing wrong with that.

5. Bullshit!
I'm afraid you don't know what you are talking about. We paid their asking price for the time. They never once asked us for more money for the time. If "more profitable" programming wanted the time shouldn't it have been offered to us first? THATS the way radio (and all business) is. And....there's nothing wrong with that. You can seek all the profits you want but you have an obligation to the public to be fair.

6. Sadly ...they don't have any obligation to the public to be fair.
Hence, no more Fairness Doctrine.

10. Just A Thank You
Guy,

This is just a thank you for all the saturdays you 'were'there for us. I hope you can get back on the air. I really do. Do you have a way now to make contributions lead to a new show - I know money is always helpful but is there some situation now looming where you have to buy yourself in or something similar?

11. I loved your show Guy
I haven't been able to listen for a little while now but when I was able to I always loved it. I hope you can get a better deal. Too bad Sirius Left or someone like that couldn't pick you up. It'd be cool if you could be on Mon-Fri.

14. Radio Here is Worthless
I live in Central Fla and lost my electricity last year during the hurricanes. I had only radio for 3-4 days and was astounded at how bad it was!

I never heard any newscasts or talk shows. It was a total waste of air time!!

Thanks Guy for all the shows, and hope to hear you soon at whatever time you can get.

18. Are you going the Thom Hartman route?
It sounds like a good plan since the costs are so damned high in SW Florida and all of the f'ing stations are owned and managed by goddamned Repukes.

You could stream out to dozens of smaller stations across the country. Some maybe in Florida with a little luck.
