We busted a Republican sign thief last night. Perp walk pictures and all.
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 11:02 AM by Bleachers7
I have been helping out the Nassau County Democratic Party (Long Island) with putting up large signs and other signs. They have been repeatedly stolen all over Nassau. There was one corner that we noticed was getting robbed within a couple days of putting up the signs. A few of us conducted a stakeout and it paid off. A guy showed up and started taking down the signs. We called the cops and he was arrested. He claims that he had permission, but that's bullshit, because he was spotted stealing from another location where we know he didn't have permission. The cops are pursuing that. The pukes also claim that we didn't have permission to put signs up there, but they have not had to put signs in other places and we haven't removed theirs. Also, these signs always get stolen in the middle of the night. The sign taker is a Town of Hempstead employee and we all know that they don't work till 11pm. Anyway, enjoy the pictures...

P.S. One of the ironies of ironies is that my lawn signs were stolen last night for the first time. This is all the sweeter.

That's our sign in the back seat. He was also taking lawn signs.

The repub perp walk. Very common these days.

BTW, I hear that the police chief at the precinct is the husband of the outgoing repuke county clerk and he was let go for last nights incident.

4. We Call it Civic Duty
Where I live no one is allowed to put up signs on city property. So when we see signs where they shouldn't be, we take them down--of course only Republican signs!

Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 10:55 AM by CottonBear
That must have been so very wonderful to bust him and get photos of him in cuffs!

In my blue community, the county emplyees remove any signs in the public right s of way. You can get them back for $2 each. They even take down the signs of elected officials who are running for re-election!

In the red county where I work, the county allows Republicans to post signs all ove the public rights of way and does nothing to stop the sign stealers. My Democratic friends can only keep signs up for one or two days before they get stolen off of private property.
:grr: I'm going to coat the signs with posion ivy during the next election or maybe wire the frame to the electric farm fence! That would stop 'em!

14. We watched the place for a few hours on a few nights.
We knew generally what time the thefts were happening and he showed up right on time. The funny thing is that this keeps happening in the middle of the night. He doesn't work anywhere near dusk as a ToH employee.

31. Coat your yard signs with this...

There are other similar products and I believe they also make this particular one in aerosol.

You might have to contend with insects being stuck to your signs, but if the sign thief follows a regular routine then it probably won't be up that long anyways.

http://www.ghorganics.com/TangleFootTrap.html

" Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating is a trapping adhesive used to help rid plants, gardens and greenhouses of aphids, whiteflies, leafminer flies, fungus gnats, Freepers and other flying insects. It is specially formulated to adhere to virtually any trapping surface. This allows you to prepare your own traps using the size and material which best suits your needs. You can also use Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating to refresh existing traps. This can contains a brush for your tangle foot- easy to use and no waste".

32. I used old motor oil on the edges of mine during the '04 campaign
I figured
1) it's slippery and made it harder to pull up
2) can't really see it in the daylight (from the road), and in the dark, it might just feel like water or dew, so they wipe it on their pants, sweatshirt, jacket, whatever
3) it gets all over the inside of their car (from the signs, their hands, and clothes that they wiped their hands on).
4) it's filthy nasty black, and doesn't wash out so easy.

I only had my signs stolen once.

Oh, and it's free (if you change your own oil).

33. It's a standard Republican practice nationwide.
They do it everywhere, in every election.

Stealing signs is stealing campaign funds, which is what they are doing.

They're crooks, thieves, and they hate the American value of open elections.
