"People who don't believe in God shouldn't live in the USA"
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 04:53 PM by Bluebear
From a caller to the Steve Lavelle show on WBZ(Boston) radio last night.

The caller's premise is that we are endowed by "our" Creator with certain inalienable rights, and the Constitution and Declaration are not living, breathing documents but law. So, anyone who does not believe our rights come from on High should be stripped of American citizenship. I believe this falls in line with what George H. W. Bush thought when he said atheists should not be citizens.

P.S. "I'm a Bush man," the caller stated firmly, and that oral sex in the White House is certainly worse than anything Fitzgerald could be investigating.

There is a Rush-saturated third of this country that seems beyond hope or constructive dialogue!

5. Not only Rush (or oxycontin) saturated but
Fallwell and Robertson saturated as well. I don't think Bush's approval ratings will ever dip below 30% because he will always have the fundie element on his side.

19. What the fool does not realize is the "Creator" mentioned in the DOI is
NOT THE CHRISTIAN GOD!

Jefferson wrote the document and was referring to the Creator recognized by Deism, not Christianity.

The Declaration is not law and the last time I read the Constitution there was nothing in there about stripping people of their citizenship because they want to enjoy the first amendment.

Then I guess we should've sent George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson packing because they didn't believe in the Christian God? Oh wait... If it weren't for them, we wouldn't even be here!

31. the Declaration is a press release, the Constitution is the law
The Declaration of Independence was a position paper done under the strife of extreme circumstances. It never was a set of laws.

There is no mention on a supreme being in the entirety of the mechanics of the Constitution. The only mention of such a supernatural being is at the very end, and it HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE JUSTIFICATION FOR THE LAWS CONTAINED.

The only reference to a big whatever is at the very end: "the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America the Twelfth." This was a legal definition of when it was agreed upon, and even here, an alternate and secular expression of the date is given.

What's more important is that the last "law" written is Article 6, section 3 (The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.)

Within the body of the Constitution, this last stipulation is the ONLY reference to religion, and even there it doesn't allude to a big Witchy Man. IT IS THE LAST LAW WRITTEN IN THE BODY OF THE DOCUMENT. That means something.

Upon being written, the states weren't happy, so to pass the thing, the first ten amendments (the Bill of Rights) was written, and it is EXTREMELY telling that the first guarantee was this: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The concept of god is to be kept out of our government. it's not just a question of which religion is to have sway, NO RELIGION is to have any voice in government. This is obvious and people who have problems with this are either ignorant or attempting to muscle others. We were intended to be a nation of logic and thought, not superstition, fantasy and the self-proclaimed right of aristocracy to subjugate and fuck others from some sense of impunity.

Sex is much worse than treason, isn't it?

(Sorry to rant here; you're obviously of a similar opinion.)
