50% favor impeachment
if B*sh lied about the war in Iraq according to an IPSOS poll commissioned by AfterDowningStreet.org. A poll conducted by Zogby in June found 42% supporting impeachment. Not unexpectedly, the responses varied by party (72% of Democrats, 56% of Independents, 20% of Repubs are favorable). The regional differences were not as great as I would have expected (Northeast: 53%, West: 51%. South: 50%).

It looks like the popular momentum for impeachment is building. My question: What's the tipping point for Congress? What about a repub congress--any possibility there given the leak case (since I mentioned this, I hope its OK to post here)? What about a 2006 Democratic Congress? What's the likelihood that one way or another that B*sh won't serve the full term?

1. Tipping point for Congress? Clinton was impeached even though
he had over 60% approval rating. I would deduce that means that less than 40% favored impeachment.

5. 40% disapproval does not equate to 40% impeachment
I mean, my mother didn't like him and she was opposed to impeachment.

18. Well, I don't think 60% of the population voted for him, so there was
definitely some overlap. Maybe your mother fell in that overlap.

I find that when it comes to opinions, each side can count on a solid one third of support or disapproval.

2. But...
you still have the "If" factor. Convinving people that the "if" is an "is" can be quite a hurdle. Afterall many people still believe Saddam had a hand in 9/11.

I could imagine
(and it's been discussed here before) Bush* becoming the fall guy - as long as Cheney or someone similar is around to succeed (IOW - not indicted/convicted) etc.

Nobody thinks Bush* is doing anything anyway.

6. Where do I sign up?
I cast my vote for impeachment RIGHT NOW!
Don't forget, even though those REPRESENTATIVES are repukes, they are still SWORN to REPRESENT the People! K? If/when they fail to do that, the PEOPLE will replace their butts with someone who will represent the will of the PEOPLE.

IOW, they're gonna tip. My optimism is showing.

12. You know what? I not so sure about that, my friend.
Honest. If Shrubco is exposed for the treasonous traitors that they are the Congress may hear a public outcry that can't be ignored. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be one hell of a battle. I guess I'm just beginning to think it isn't COMPLETELY out of the question.

Just my take on things. :smoke:

Peace.

9. If I were a gambling woman
I'd venture that it won't happen with a repub Congress no matter how strong the popular sentiment becomes. But with a 2006 Democratic Congress it's inevitable if enough is uncovered about the whole sorry mess this regime represents!

10. It's less about public opinion...
than political fallout. I think the Republicans will consider impeachment if it appears they will be blown out in the 2006 elections. They will have to appear to be in favor of ethics - and opposed to treasonous lies.

11. Exactly
Momentum for impeachment of Nixon did not really build until the repub congresscritters realized they'd have to run in the 74 elections with the albatross that Nixon had become around their necks. Wait until next Feb or Mar with the papers full of Plamegate revelations and see how fast scared incumbent repubs turn on this twerp. He can't do them any good anymore and he can do a lot of damage to their chances of reelection.

14. Plus
we think the Tom delay money train is on hold for now. AND he isn't in there holding votes open all night, for now. So, I feel a need to look at this as a real possibility.

Could be wrong; but let's hope for a very merry christmas.

13. What is meant by "if he lied" about the war in Iraq. Who doesn't think
he lied about the reasons for going to war in Iraq? Especially since we are now on reason number 5.
