Ray Nagin had a mischievous smile on his face.
I saw it on CNN. The story was about some Mexican construction workers who were leaving New Orleans because--gasp!--it turned out that they were not legally within the United States.

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AGAINST MEXICANS. (In fact, I'm learning Spanish. Hace dos anos que estudio espanol.) Furthermore, my father was a Spanish-speaking immigrant (not from Mexico), but he came here legally, he knew English--and he came with an education already under his belt.

What I DO have something against is corporations like Halliburton and BE & K (to name just 2 of the hundreds) who are exploiting Mexican illegals, paying them low wages, denying them worker's comp and benefits, etc.

A young Mexican man was interviewed as he boarded a bus which was to take him out of New Orleans. He said, in essence, "We came here to build... I hurt my finger building one of their houses, and nobody would help me about it..."

Well, guess what, dude? THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU WHEN YOU WORK UNDER THE TABLE FOR A SOULLESS CORPORATION WHICH DOESN'T EMPLOY YOU WITHIN THE LAW!!!

Nagin (the republican-turned democrat mayor of New Orleans) explained that he wanted the rebuilding jobs to go to New Orleanians--all of whom have taken a huge financial hit from these hurricanes, and almost all of whom are now GOING BEGGING.

My opinion: better to lie in the gutter than to fail to at least try to stand up to the rapists of Halliburton.

Go Nagin! Go Blanco! GO LANDRIEU!

1. What He Said as Quoted in This Previous Thread Was
"to make sure NO is not overrun by Mexican workers." He neglected to say "illegal".

3. I did hear about that... this story was today, however.
Of course that earlier comment was very politically incorrect.

But do you have oodles of illegal Mexican workers in the area where you live? Is there ANY place besides New Orleans, right now, in the U.S., where the residents are more in need of jobs??

What's wrong with giving those jobs to the New Orleanians? They are really hurting.

With me, it's not the Mexicans--it's the vicious, exploitive, corporations who use them and throw them away.

9. Which political incorrectness hurts more people:
insensitively saying that he "doesn't want New Orleans overrun with Mexicans" (Nagin), or coldly hiring Mexicans, who due to their illegal status have little or no protection, for slave wages, without worker's comp, and with no benefits (Halliburton et al)?

Actions speak louder than words.

19. Substitute Any Other Minority Name & See What Happens in This Thread
Plus, how exactly are you interpreting "mischievous smile"? What is there to smile about on this topic, much less mischievously?

2. A real government doesn't play one group off against another. They
try and solve differences. Good for Ray.

4. Right! And if all these Mexicans are really in such dire straits
that they have to sneak across the border, leaving their homes/families for months or years, just to get decent pay, then how come VICENTE FOX isn't trying to do something for them??? Aren't they HIS citizens??

8. I'm entitled to my opinion. And who's "bashing"?
Are you saying that what I've said about Halliburton isn't true? And if it is true, how can it be "bashing"?

I am not required to put the interests of other people ahead of those of myself and my country. Sorry.

10. your expression of feeling against the undocumented workers...
is visceral and emotional...the feelings come thru loud nd clear.

your expression of feeling against haliburton et al is mechanical and fairly emotionless...comes thru as contrived and calculating.

go sell it to someone else.

12. Says you. What're you--psychic?
Your patronizing tone is insufferable.

I'm for New Orleans--a city that is very dear to me.

You have probably never even been to New Orleans, or if you have, you probably confined your trip to T-shirt shops and Pat O'Briens. Talk about "mechanical and fairly emotionless."

Take your patronizing, pious preaching and shove it up your Cheney. I'm not buying.

17. I totally agree with you. I can't for the life of me understand DUer's
who are willing to turn a blind eye to this and, like Republicans, only want to recognize the laws they "like". We have laws for a reason and No Exit is right on about this subject. Corporations who hire illegals just so they don't have to pay them minimum wage (the law) or benefits does nothing but hurt the country. If we're going to take back our country, we have to take it all back and not turn our backs on laws we don't like. Just my 2 cents.

18. Thank you. And the repukes' complete disregard for laws
they don't like--such as laws which protect workers--hurts the workers, too, be they legal immigrants, citizens, or illegal immigrants.

The republican rapists are literally sucking the population dry. I only hope that the criminal charges against their leaders--Bushco, DeLay, and Frist--is a good start on throwing the Party of Criminals out FOREVER.
