Bush scales his SC Justice pick to two GOP conservative males
Under W, we will have one token female and one taken black.

1. Two WHITE
GOP conservative males.

Sandra's not going to be happy. She wanted "diversity."

6. If Sandra's not happy, she can always "un-retire".
She hasn't actually quit yet, and she said she would keep showing up for work until a replacement was confirmed. And since she isn't dead, there's no way they could stop her, if she retracted her retirement.

Hell, it's hard to know what she thinks, being one of the Felonious Florida Five, but if she feels guilty about that decision at all, she might be hoping for Chimpeachment like the rest of us.

7. Yep.
As far as I can tell, she's not exactly happy with the Administration. I think there's a defninite possibility of her pulling back her resignation if she's not happy with the nominee. Her husband (dying and apparently the reason for her retirement) didn't want her to resign.

12. 'Conservative' doesn't begin to cover it
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 07:14 AM by bowens43
These guys are to the right of Hitler. If either of these whack jobs gets confirmed we can kiss the liberal interpretation of the commerce clause good-bye , along with all of our federal environmental laws.

Alito is known as 'Scalito' or 'Little Scalia' and Luttig is a freakrepublic wet dream.

We trashed an unknown and we're going to get a known extremist.

13. And the Dems will filibuster. Will they engage "nuclear option" with polls
in the crapper as they are?

Seems unlikely.

14. Seems very likely to me.
They're in the crapper with their base. Their base is itching for a fight.

15. Thing is, their base is dwindling. If their base can only muster 37-39%
approval, at best, that doesn't bode well for them.

16. You may be right but
I really can't see the republicans allowing another nomination to be stopped. After the embarrassment of the Miers nomination they can't afford another loss of that type.

Who is we? Seems like all the trashing I heard was from right wingers. If us here at DU have such influence it would be wonderful but she was not rejected because of DU but because of Bill Krystal and his ilk.

19. I didn't say she was rejected because of DU.

But the vast majority here wanted here gone. They wanted a filibuster if she came up for a vote. My point is that those HERE who were trashing Miers even though there was the possibility that she may have been a moderate, are now going to find their worst nightmares fulfilled.

5. When they landed at Camp David on Friday..
...and they got settled in, then finally met wherever they meet to shoot the shit...

I wonder how much about the crap they're in with the leak in comparison to how much they talked about the next justice?

Wouldn't you have loved to be a fly on the wall? http://eliteleague.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/lol!.gif

9. Did you hear Dan Abrams (MSNBC) make his suggestion?
On his show this past Thursday, he went into his usual final comments at the end of the show.

His comments this time were why Bush should select Ted Olson as Sandra Day O'Conner's replacement. :silly: ..He went into a lengthy spiel about Olson's background, how conservative he is, his law background, etc..

His feeling was that Olson -- even though he's highly conservative, would get past Democrats easy enough. Although he didn't come out and say it, I was thinking he said that because of Barbara Olsen's death on 911.

Anyway.. I was surprised to hear Abrams say that Ted Olson would be the best pick in his opinion.

Made me wonder if he's on the short list?

20. I heard that on FTN this AM too.
They're sure not shy about demanding an extremist!

I hope they're all wrong. Shrub did it in the past with Roberts, who wasn't on any press report short list. I woln't be terribly surprised if he doesn't do it again.
