1. I didn't want to cry this a.m.,
but can never can help myself anymore.

When I change the number in the back window of my car I cry and have a moment of silence for all of them and their families and friends.

Thanks TG.

It now stands at 2016.
Rest in Peace.

3. Excuse me?! Each and every death matters and each one needs
to be remembered every day!!!! We should never forget that these soldiers are dying for the lies of the * cabal for profit. Yes, every death matters and we do not enjoy the rising death toll, we dread it every day.
WTF is your problem?! Afraid * will be hurt by the ever growing numbers?! think we should ignore them?!

Bye.

4. The real question is...
do you care about 2,000 people who never needed to die. 2,000 deaths is a picture of the failure of US policy and the terrible consequences of that failure. In case you failed 3rd grade math, 2,000 includes EVERY death, not just the last one.

Thanks for praying and hoping that we didn't reach 2,000...but we did. What a difference you made. Perhaps you should pray and hope while we actually deal with reality.

By the way, there were specific posts about virtually every instance where a US soldier was killed. Get a grip.

5. Thank you manic! You said it so
much better than I did. I just got frustrated over such a critical post. Smelled a bit to me.
As if we enjoy the deaths! Since when is mourning gloating? Argh!
Thanks for the help.
Peace

7. If I could have found a graphic
with 2016 I would have used that. I don't see 2000 as any more of a cosmic marker than the year 2000 was. But it resulted in this particular visual aid.

As a teacher, after Sept 11 I brought a can full of dried kidney beans to work and counted out 3000 so the kids could visualize that what that meant in total numbers. Some people learn visually and some people access the world about them visually.

And you know what? I take offense at your post and the snide "whose side are you on?" I do NOT enjoy the death toll climbing higher and in my opinion you are an officious twit.

And if that gets me tombstoned from DU then so be it.

9. Why waste your first post attacking those with
common goals to stop this quagmire?
How many Chinese magnets do you have on your car?

Who's side are YOU on?!

There's also a thread ignore feature to the right of each thread posted. I suggest you use it if our grief bothers you so much.

17. When will OUR brutal dictator be removed?!
The US helped Sadam get most of the weapons he used and encouraged him in their use. do some research will ya'!

"Have you all heard about the rape rooms?" Have you heard about Abu Grahib?!!

"Has anyone looked for Iraqi blogs, or actually read anything written by an Iraqi (if you would like to read some let me know, I can't point you in the direction). Has anyone in here done any investigating and reading on their own or are you all just repeating what you have heard?" duh, what do you think we do here? I spend hours researching all of it on the net.

I recieve dispatches from Iraqi's that are blogging and Dahr Jamal. Ever heard of Riverbend's blog http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/ or http://abutamam.blogspot.com/? I suggest you read those to hear what the real Iraqi's are saying/thinking, rather than honing in on warmongerers propaganda in the media.

"I'm not trying to make anyone mad" right, thats why
you were being so insulting and on the attack.
Enjoy your very short stay!

23. Read the quote below and see if you can find the insult
"For people who are against the war, everyone one of you sure enjoys seeing the death toll climb higher and higher. Who's side are you on???"

THOSE ARE YOUR WORDS. I found them insulting. I am not thin skinned. You accused me of ENJOYING seeing the death toll climb higher and higher. In essence, you called me a sadistic monster.

That, sir, is insulting and I repeat: you are an officious twit.

Get over yourself

34. BIG difference between Saddam and Hitler.
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 12:07 PM by Dark
Hitler DECLARED WAR ON US.

Saddam didn't.

There are other differences, but that one seems pretty important to me.

19. Did you read the rules for this forum?
"Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives"

Now, you don't have to be anti-war to participate on here, because not everyone is; but your arguments need to be made respectfully and not personal attacks. (another part of the rules you obviously did not read.)

You personally attacked ME after the original post when you asked me "What side are you on?"

That is known as a cheap shot, it is not intelligent give-and-take discussion and it puts your role here very much in question. There are plenty of forums online where you can spew til your heart's content, but this isn't one of them. We work hard along with the mods to keep this a civil place.

I suggest you might be happier pursuing another venue for your spew.

25. No, it was not a rthetorical question
You questioned "what side are you on."

We Democrats have put up with this "Why do you hate America" screed for too long and that is why we are "sensitive."

And again, you said we enjoy watching the death toll going up.

Those are fighting words, Mr. SheepleHater.

You are now officially on my ignore list and I have reported you to the moderators. When you get back to Free Republic, say hi to everyone for us.

27. The only cause furthered by the deaths of American soldiers is
the terrorists'.

We don't celebrate any soldier's death. The only thing we'll celebrate about Iraqnam is when the soldiers come home.

Just because you hear some rabid fundamentalist say that 'we don't support the troops' doesn't mean that we don't.

It means that they're an idiot chickenhawk.

I do see where you're coming from, because that is a familiar RW talking point, and some posts can be misconstrued.

But rest assured. We're committed to supporting, and returning, the troops.

BTW "Whose side are you on?" is not a rhetorical question.

33. Regardless of whether we cut and run or 'stay the course'
Iraq is devolving toward a civil war. Do we want to be caught in the middle?

The Sunnis who rejected the constitution? You think they're just going to sit down and be quiet, while they lose power? They'll do what they are doing now. Killing American soldiers.

What are we doing that we hate so much?

Dying.

Letting our soldiers die for oil is wrong in our minds. War is a last resort, and when it is done, we have to pick up the pieces and put the country back together.

We're not doing that. We haven't even secured the CAPITOL yet. 9 BILLION DOLLARS disappeared. We are throwing our soldiers and money into a big bonfire. And that conflagration is just getting bigger.

22. We do hope and pray that it won't reach 2000. But
we also know that this tradgedy keeps happening.

Every number, wheter 1 or 68 or 2000 is a travesty of what the military stands for: honor, justice, and defense.

Every number is another greiving widow, or mother, or daughter. It's wrong that these young men and women are over there.

And it's wrong that they are dying.

32. It is wrong for several reasons.
From several vantage points, Iraq was the wrong decision:

1.) It was a war based on lies waged for oil. This alone tarnishes our soldiers' honor. But to know that your life is valuable only to secure Halliburton's profits is a disgusting thought.

2.) If we came to the 'defense' of the Iraqi people, why haven't we come to the defense of the Sudanese? Or any of the dictatorships we SUPPORT?

3.) I don't feel that we came to the defense of the Iraqi people. And I'll tell you why. Things have gotten Chaotic overthere. We've lost 2000 of our soldiers. They've lost up to 100,000 of their own people. And daily attacks keep that number on the rise.

But that's not all. Abu Ghraib (sic) showed that our military ISN'T bringing justice over there. Though it is true that a few bad apples ruined the batch, it's still also true that that made us look very bad.

4.) Iraqis don't want us there. Various polls suggest that the Iraqis want us to leave, that they are fed up with us being there.

5.) We cant defend ourselves. What happens if the lunatics who govern Iran actually GET the bomb? They're trying to, and we can't do shit about it. Why? Cause we're stuck in an Iraqmire.

6.) We didn't come to the defense of the Iraqi people. We put Saddam on trial, and we only bring a single charge dating back from the 1980s? So he wasn't torturing and 'disappearing' troublemakers (kinda like what we're doing) recently?

7.) Saddam was NO threat to us. That is the military's job: To protect us. Right now, we're waging a war against terrorism. Saddam had noting to do with the terrorists who attacked us or want to attack us.

But, nowadays, Iraq DOES have something to do with it.

I do believe this thread will be copied and printed on Free Republic. Let's not give this gentleman any more ammunition. He claims to have wanted intelligent discourse but he began his conversation calling us, in essence, sadists. I have put him on ignore and suggest you all consider doing so.
