Absolutely the ONE thing Bush cannot AFFORD to lose
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 09:42 AM by bushmeat
The only thing the American public still thinks the Republicans can handle better than the Democrats is Terrorism. If Bush loses this perception then the Republican party cannot win in 06 or 08.

"The consensus among legal experts and insiders on Capitol Hill is that the president himself is safe from any legal repercussions. But he will not come out unscathed. The political ramifications stand to be far more damaging, not only for the president, but for his party. In another CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll, it was revealed that were an election held immediately between President Bush and any Democrat, the unnamed democratic contender would win in a 55% to 39% landslide. The same poll revealed that the Democrats are ahead on almost all the issues for the first time in recent memory. This includes health care (59% to 30%), social security (56% to 33%) the economy (50% to 38%), and the Iraq war (46% to 40%). The only issue on which the American public still trusts President Bush’s party is terrorism, the Republicans still enjoying a sizeable 53% to 29% lead."

Given the mess in Iraq, the building anti-war sentiment, and the CIA leak the public could easily reverse this perception of the Republicans being effective against terrorism.

I wish MoveOn would target this 100%

1. I think I saw a recent poll where they even lost the edge on terrorism
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 09:42 AM by Catch22Dem
I can't remember which poll it was. Perhaps ARG.

EDIT: Disregard, it was Iraq that I was thinking of, not terrorism.

here was a disaster...one we saw coming...everyone in the nation saw it hovering towards the LA shore....and the reponse to aid americans was so pathetic ....after BILLION had been spent to be "prepared"....

the chinks in the armor are there and the gaps are getting bigger which we should take advantage of......

4. Right, there is plenty of material for a national campaign to show how the
Republicans are not effective against terrorism!

6. Dems can call it one of two ways and still make him look impotent.
A. If another "terrorist" attack occurs, * couldn't prevent it although he made noises like he could as he is "on watch" for the country.

B. If another "terrorist" attack doesn't occur, he wasn't necessary to begin with because there was no viable threat.

ON THE OTHER HAND . . .

Republicans can spin the same scenario two ways to make * look like "The Man":

A. If another "terrorist" attack occurs, then * gets his dusty megaphone out of the closet, climbs on top of rubble and expresses righteous indignation. Five minutes later, Iran and/or Syrian is attacked.

B. If another "terrorist" attack doesn't occur, it would be attributed to the "stature" of our "fearless leader" that prevented the potentiality by his mere presence "on watch".

7. That W can handle terrorism better is perhaps the greatest myth of the
ages: a strong argument could be made that terrorism has in fact, exploded, that it has been handled as badly as Katrina has/will be handled, maybe even worse.

8. So lets do it! If you are a member of MoveOn let them know to target this
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 09:57 AM by bushmeat
The easiest point we can make is that an America with a weak education system, a weak economy, a weak health care system and a weakened National Guard will be weaker on Terrorism.
