DeLay's Poll Numbers Drop Again; Sends Desperate Letter to Constituents

It looks as though embattled Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) is getting more and more desperate each day. In the face of new poll numbers out this week, the former House Leader sent an email letter to conservative constituents in his home district #22 in a pathetic attempt to cry victim and absolve himself of any wrongdoing stemming from his recent indictment over his illegal fundraising schemes.

The email comes just two days after the latest SurveyUSA tracking poll which shows:

*51% Job Dis-Approval Rating, only the second time in 13 tracking polls conducted over the past 5 months that a majority of registered voters in DeLay's district has expressed disapproval.
*45% Job Approval Rating.
*42% of District 22 voters say DeLay should resign from Congress, the highest this number has been in 5 months of tracking.

In his letter, DeLay portrays his indictment as a result of a partisan witch-hunt: "It has been over a month since Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle acted out his political revenge and indicted me for crimes that don't exist. And over the last month, we have seen such a litany of prosecutorial misconduct that even the national media is questioning his motives. Look at who is studying this circus-like investigation and you'll see that journalists and legal experts are acknowledging these charges are baseless, partisan, and nothing more than revenge for my work to provide the people of Texas with a fair and constitutional congressional representation. I am being attacked not for doing anything wrong - I'm being attacked for being effective and standing up for what's right."

6. Oops, sorry!
What with DeLay turning himself in and Tiny Scooter limping around on his crutches, you know, it's been a coffee-spewing kind of autumn so far! Heh heh!!

7. Well, you know, the DeLay tots that I feel the most sorry for
are those ones he gave some of his ill-gotten money to... now, which ones were those? Oh yeah--ALL his children!

And yes, the idea of DeLay breeding is certainly an argument for early sterilization for criminals.

Thats an important facet of this to consider. He has no compassion for you, exploited workers in the Northern Marianas, our children, the sick, the poor, the voiceless.

16. Bull! That's just a slight of hand....
Actually, he knocks the bottom of the collection plate with his knuckle while he skillfully palms the coin.

Yeah. That's a pretty common complaint among fine, upstanding citizens, Tommy. You stick with that angle.

Sharks have to attack or die.

But really, how is his constant melodrama all over the airwaves helping him? The sort of people who love him for his alpha-pitbull status aren't going to love him more for playing the put-upon underdog; and everyone else who never gave him much thought before or even heard of him thinks, "Wow. Who's this whiny asshole?"

Much of the reason that Clinton weathered the constant shitstorm as well as he did was because he was publically sunny and unflappable, nearly constantly, as I recall. DeLay is carrying on like Camille. Oh, boo hoo, they just don't like him for his politics. Well, yeah. Basically because your politics involve being a criminal. And now they're calling you on it. And your point is?...You'll have your day in court. In the meantime, shut UP, dumbass, and let your lawyer handle it, unless you just want everyone to hate you more. oh, right, your lawyer's even more of a giant asshole than you are, if that's possible. well, have at it then.

What a scream!

I guess this moran thought it was a never-ending dream, being able to demand corporate dollars for favors. The money would never stop rolling in.

Poor little bugman. It's over.

11. What a great argument
this letter would make if we turned it back on him and his apologist and pointed out the Bill Clinton could have sent the same letter out.Only in his case,it was true.Oh,the irony.

12. Oh yeah, I think it's FAIR that Austin is divided into
three!!! districts so as to combine them with heavily RED areas to insure that the liberals have NO voice, and NO representation in Congress. NO matter that we are the capital of Texas, and no matter that he broke EVERY rule against gerrymandering to get this done.

This man needs to be put away for a long, long time. What he did was positively EVIL. /rant off/

19. My Rant is never OFF on this topic! Massive disenfranchisement of
minority voters in Texas by gerrymandering WILL NEVER BE OK WITH ME!!! May he and all his ilk be voted out of office and put away for a long time! Just hoping Speaker "I have the money" Craddick joins him in prison garb!

13. What Legal Troubles Get Sympathy? Sure Not Embezzling
Many gave Clinton a pass cause all his legal troubles were about a "sloppy blow job". Or they looked the other way about Martha Stewart cause they thought she was being squeezed by the system. These people also were likeable to start off with. Hate them as you will.

DeLay's a weasel and that's how he got to where he's at. No one denies this guy got to the top by screwing anyone and everyone who got in his way. When he got away with it and it meant more pork/power for his district, his constituents loved it. Now that he's drawing negative reaction and appears to be a lame duck...dump him. He wasn't likeable in the first place.

17. Sorry Tom,
:nopity: But when your party gleefully jumped on the biggest witch hunt of the century against a man who had done nothing more than get a blow job, you started the current blood and guts political banter. The blood is on your hands and your friends started it. You'll have to play by the rules you and your party implemented during the Clinton presidency, now. No sympathy here. Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas.
