Miers and the Christian Right Wing Death Squads |
|
The Christian right is taking credit for Miers' withdrawal of her own nomination. I pray it is not their doing.
Harriet Miers was not qualified to do the job - the problem was really as simple as that. If a reasonable Senate was sitting and it took care to do its job well she could never have been confirmed and seated - she simply did not have the background to fill the job. So be it.
However something strange was afoot. As well as lacking the requisite experience to hold a seat on the Supreme Court she was also unwilling to preordain the radical Christian right's agenda. The girl wasn't a ringer for the holier than crap bunch. They would not back her.
Now the Christian right is taking credit for Mier's withdrawal of her own nomination and if they are right (no pun ...) we are in worse trouble than we imagined. If her pullout was prompted by an unwillingness to confirm the voice of the right wing hate mongers rather than her lack of qualifications it means that the next candidate need not be any more qualified than she, only more willing to do the bidding of the Christian Right.
Their only power is in the perception that they have power. Deny them that and the fall. Do not allow anyone to say that Miers got hit by a Christian Right Wing Death Squad, it only empowers them if we accept that nonsense.

The two names being mentioned now. The worst of the worst and the Christian Right's dream come true. If the Democrats in Congress don't filibuster either of these two, they may as well disband as a Party and go home. Declare this country a totalitarian theocracy and end the hypocrisy.

Supposedly, Alito has the inside track. With a nickname like "Scalito" you just know he has to be a nazi.
