Texas Leads Nation in Household Hunger

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051029/ap_on_re_us/texas_hunger_1

A higher percentage of Texas households were at risk of going hungry over the past three years than in any other state, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Agriculture Department.

-snip-

Nationwide, 11.4 percent of households were at risk of going hungry during that period, and 3.6 percent of U.S. households had at least one member go hungry, the USDA said.

The latest national figures were higher than in the previous three-year period. Between 1999 and 2001, an average of 10.4 percent of households were at risk for hunger, and an average of 3.1 percent of households experienced hunger.

the hungry should go and camp out on the front lawns of the Texas Oil Barons and have them cough up some of that obscene profit

wealthiest nations in the world. Especially when considering all the food thrown away to keep commodities prices and subsidies in place.

7. Houston was supposedly the fattest city in the country
According to a study done a few years ago that guessed at a figure based on factors such as time spent commuting, membership in gyms, etc. The results may have been accurate, they may also have been bullshit.

3. its true
not only are the poor dealing with it, but the middle class is turning that way as well. My parents have barely enough money to buy basic groceries due to the property taxes, gas and everything else. Wish they would move more towards the city (Dallas) so my dad wouldn't have to drive 35 miles round trip to work. Would make their lives easier. Bush did alot of damage to Texas after he left, scares me how bad of a situation we are going to be in after he is done in office

6. * leaves a wake of misery in his path
His failures in Texas are merely foreshadowing of the misery he'll leave on the rest of the nation in his wake.
