In Acadiana, FEMA's sad saga lives on
<snip> On Oct. 7, FEMA rented 40 spots for travel trailers at Acadiana Park Campgrounds, part of the effort to provide temporary housing for victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. FEMA is paying $93,000 for six months' rental.

No hurricane victims have used the spots. A FEMA spokesman said the move has been delayed by unspecified environmental and infrastructure problems. The agency hopes to use the park by Nov. 13, which will be nearly a month after the president's deadline for emptying shelters and moving all displaced evacuees into temporary housing.

Another 50 travel trailer spots are waiting for evacuees under a $105,000 contract with the Gueydan Duck Festival Association.

The list of FEMA missteps continues to grow - no-bid or limited-competition contracts, trucks full of ice wandering around the country, and, in another recent case, a $110,000 contract for Hurricane Katrina T-shirts. <snip>
