Executions in Texas under the spotlight
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=eb235e581e118cf9

Texas continues to lead the United States in executions. Just in the next two weeks five people will meet their death in the Texan death chamber.

Since 1976, nearly a thousand people have been put to death in the United States, 989 to be exact.

Of those 36% or 351 have been in Texas. The next highest was Virginia with 94. There are 32 states that have engaged in capital punishment since 1976, along with the Federal Government.

In Texas this week, Jaime Elizalde Jr., a 34 year old Hispanic is scheduled to die on Wednesday. 55 year old Melvin White, a former mechanic, is scheduled to die Thursday, while 37 year old Charles Thacker, who was 24 when he committed his offence, will meet his death on November 9. Robert Rowell, 50, will be executed on the 15th of November, and the following day Shannon Thomas, a 34 year old black man will die.

especially if their defense lawyer slept during the trial. But heck, the Texas Supreme Court ruled there was nothing wrong with having an unconscious lawyer...

2. The state of Tx is very proud of that!
I used to live there. They think they are the rule of law!

No mercy, not reform, just kill 'em!

Lots of them working against it, too.

5. personally i would ...
rather be put to death than to rot away in jail for the rest of my life. a few years vrs 60 years ( or so ) of no freedom etc. i do believe in the death penalty in very grievous cases. but i would rather see them rot in jail with no hope, and have to think about what they did for 60 plus years
