The full story of Rosa Parks -- Interview with Herb Boyd on Peter Werbe
It is at the third hour of Peter Werbe's 10/30/05 show, probably up on ben burch's site before too long, at:
http://www.whiterosesociety.org/Werbe.html
It is at the beginning of the third hour. Many thanks to ben for this important archive.

Most have already heard the RW version (a lone individual acting courageously - or a commie dupe) and the liberal view (she was a part of a larger movement). Herb Boyd is a historian who lived through that epoch and reminds us of the whole context -- the lynching of "the Scottsboro boys" (her husband was involved in the fightback and introduced her to the NAACP), the murder of Emmett Till and his mother's courage and the photo in Jet, the Brown vs. Board of Education decision, and Joe Louis, and more. The interview is too short and very free-flowing, but it helps give a hint of the real world context in which that one act became significant, and if these hints are followed through it gives us an idea of how all honest working people might need to organize against corporatist oppression.

There's a lot of good stuff out there, but a lot focuses on the details. Getting a wider picture is important, especially for those who know this history only through "the media," so I want to recommend this download for any who missed the live broadcast. Like I said, only hints at the whole context, bu even a few hints about "how things work" are important when the broader picture is being obscured.

Take a few minutes to listen. It's worth it. There's a lot not said, but there is much more than in most of the "tributes" I have seen on TV or read.
