Remember the 'Piggy Banks offend Muslims' from the UK?
Well, it's utter bullshit. ABC TV (Australia) wrote to the 2 banks in question (Halifax and Natwest), and BOTH banks said that there was NO truth whatsoever to the story.

Halifax said that they hadn't used piggy banks in promotions for at least 2 years, and Natwest simply stopped using pigs in their ads because that particular advertising campaign was over. In both cases they said nothing relevant to the islamic community was ever considered, and they were rather pissed off that nobody had bothered to ask them.

Never hurts to check one's facts, does it?

2. Doesn't surprise me at all
The story came from the Daily Star which is a joke of a newspaper, even the publishers will admit that they're more interested in stories about Elvis working in a local chip shop than they are in reporting anything that resembles news.

Now if they want to do some real reporting they can investigate the group that fed them this story in the first place.

4. Yes, we had a fair amount of scepticism about it
Any idea if ABC have put up a web story about it? I can't find one on their site, or in Google News. There are a few right wingers on other forums who leapt up with remarks about Muslims taking over the UK that I want to shout "I told you so!" at.

6. The Dudley story about Piglet etc. looks true
because it was properly reported, with quotes from named people, in the local paper, as well as a national tabloid. However, once it was reported, it became clear that a lot of people thought it a stupid decision, and it's being reviewed.

Councillor Pat Martin told a full council meeting: "I fully support the actions by management to respond to the concerns from colleagues following established and approved procedures.

"However I'm satisfied these procedures need to be reconsidered to make them compatible with the current law on what's deemed to be offensive in the workplace. Therefore I've ordered an urgent review of the procedures."
...
When the decision was taken, the council's head of finance Mike Williams said it "did not matter why it was considered offensive".

He acknowledged then that some members of the department saw it as "political correctness gone barmy".

7. I love that quote
"political correctness gone barmy."

I think when I go there I shall wear modest dress and veil, and I guess they'll have to get used to picture of pigs in the British culture!
